About the School

Smart Teachers are looking to recruit special educational needs (SEN) teaching assistants for an Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ primary school in South West London. The school supports pupils across Early Years to KS2 with autism spectrum condition (ASC) and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).  

The school are looking for daily cover teaching and support assistants for their PMLD unit for after October half term, who could continue full-time in 2022. Classes are small with up to 8 pupils with complex needs supported by a class teacher and additional SEN Teaching Assistants.

This role is ideal for those with care backgrounds (support work, nursing, play work, respite care) and those confident supporting children with physical and learning difficulties. The school incorporates a cross curricular, child centred and topic-based approach to learning using resources such as PECS, TEACCH and Makaton.

As a successful candidate you MUST have:

• SEN support experience whether through care work, paid work, placement, volunteering or personal experience 

• Experience or a willingness to support children with personal care and moving and handling 

• Availability for immediate daily cover (bank/ad-hoc) work 8:30am-3:45pm Monday to Friday 

• Experience using resources such as PECS, Makaton or TEACCH is highly desirable but not essential

• A positive and nurturing approach to support
