Location: Greenwich

Contract type: Full Time

Contract term: Permanent

A Primary Specialist teacher is required to join this rapidly expanding provision in the Royal Borough of Greenwich which meets the needs of young people with diagnoses of Autism and severe mental health concerns. You will ideally have experience with high functioning youngsters on the spectrum but more importantly will be an outstanding teacher with a can do attitude and the resilience to work with our challenging cohort. You will also be excited by the prospect of working in a dynamic, forward looking environment where risks are encouraged in order to achieve results.

Teachers will be trained to teach within KS2-5 and will preferably have experience of working with young people with ASD using specific interventions such as TEACCH, SPELL framework and SCERTS.

We are particularly interested in appointing primary specialists for our KS3 classes. Your role will be to play a key part in the delivery of the national curriculum to our small cohort. You will have a subject specialism but will also be flexible enough and take on responsibility for other subject areas depending on your strengths and the balance of the team. Primary specialists will have a class group and will teach most of their lessons to allow consistency within the classroom. The senior leadership team is determined to give our students the best opportunities possible to become successful, responsible citizens with bright futures.

We opened in a refitted building in May 2016 and currently have 23 students on roll in years 7, 9, 10, 12 and 13. By September we will have up to 48 students in years 7-14. And by September 2018 will reach our capacity of 55. The curriculum is developing to meet the social communication and emotional literacy needs of our cohort and covers a diversity of academic need from entry to A level.

We are looking for:

· Outstanding classroom practitioners with the ability to inspire others and a commitment to high standards

· A proven record of good academic results with students of all abilities

· Innovation and an ability to inspire students with a range of needs

· Preferably experience of working with students with ASD with experience of specific interventions outlined above

· Resilience

Newhaven Pupil Referral Unit is a high performing and complex alternative provision set in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. We believe in providing opportunities for students to become independent and well-rounded individuals ready to embrace all that life has to offer, removing the barriers to learning that have hindered their progress up to now.

At Newhaven we have an extremely effective team of dedicated staff to support the progress of every child, including specialist LSAs and HLTAs, Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and CAMHS link workers. Our most recent Ofsted report notes that Newhaven pupils “benefit from a committed team of professionals who enjoy coming to work. This is because they feel valued and are supported to work together to improve pupils’ outcomes”.

Newhaven has a positive "can do" attitude, believing that the sky is the limit, and we think creatively and innovatively to meet the needs of our learners and school community. Our examination results and student destinations are a testament to this.
