A Primary Specialist teacher is required to join this rapidly establishing special provision in the Royal Borough of Greenwich which meets the needs of young people with diagnoses of Autism and enduring mental health concerns. Our school is a happy place where our focus on developing our students’ interests and skills throughout their time has led to all our leavers so far being engaged in fulfilling work or study programmes against the national trends for similar youngsters. Our students tell us they value the school and show this by attending more than they ever have. Feedback from parents is glowing with high levels of engagement with our parental work. Staff enjoy the difference they make and the small class sizes with extensive professional support.

You will ideally have experience with high functioning youngsters on the spectrum but more importantly will be an outstanding teacher with a can do attitude and the resilience to work with our challenging cohort. You will teach English, maths and science as well as lifeskills such as travel and cooking to a small class where you will get to have a real impact on young peoples’ lives. You will be excited by the prospect of working in a dynamic, forward looking environment where risks are encouraged in order to achieve results and will flourish in a school where staff wellbeing is a considerable priority. You will also be excited by the prospect of joining a happy, valued team.

We are looking for:

  • Outstanding classroom  practitioners with the ability to inspire others and a commitment to high standards
  • A proven record of good academic results with students of all abilities
  • Innovation and an ability to inspire students with a range of needs
  • Preferably experience of  working with students with ASD but we will train you if not.
  • Resilience fostered by an  ability to engage with the support of your team, line managers and a range of specialist professionals such as our clinical psychologist, educational      psychologist and SALT

Zaqiel, Year 11

Newhaven Pupil Referral Unit is a high performing and complex alternative provision set in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. We believe in providing opportunities for students to become independent and well-rounded individuals ready to embrace all that life has to offer, removing the barriers to learning that have hindered their progress up to now.

At Newhaven we have an extremely effective team of dedicated staff to support the progress of every child, including specialist LSAs and HLTAs, Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and CAMHS link workers. Our most recent Ofsted report notes that Newhaven pupils “benefit from a committed team of professionals who enjoy coming to work. This is because they feel valued and are supported to work together to improve pupils’ outcomes”.

Newhaven has a positive "can do" attitude, believing that the sky is the limit, and we think creatively and innovatively to meet the needs of our learners and school community. Our examination results and student destinations are a testament to this.
