The British School of Barcelona (BSB) is a great school in a wonderful location. We are an HMC school and were judged by a recent BSO (British Schools Overseas) inspection to be outstanding in every area, including quality of education, safeguarding, pupil welfare and academic outcomes.

BSB is a large, very popular school for children aged 3 to 18. Our curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum, and we offer a wide range of GCSEs, A levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, all alongside a significant enrichment programme.

Over 2000 pupils from more than 74 nationalities attend the school and over 315 staff work at BSB. We are based in three locations, two just outside the city of Barcelona – in Castelldefels, where we have a Primary, Secondary and Pre-University campus, and in the cosmopolitan town of Sitges, where we have another Primary campus. BSB City is in the heart of the city of Barcelona itself with a Foundation campus (built September 2021), and a brand-new main campus which opened in September 2023.

The growth of the school has been accompanied by significant investment over recent years, including the building of a state-of–the art Pre-University Centre (Nexus), a full-sized 4G rugby and football pitch, dedicated STEM facilities and the new BSB City campuses.

About the role
We are looking for a Temporary, full-time, Primary teacher to work in our BSB Castelldefels campus.

As a teacher at BSB you will be expected to follow the guidelines set out in the Cognita Teaching Toolkit. This includes clear expectations for planning, assessment, relationships, lesson delivery and wider professional duties. You will also be expected to contribute towards helping to deliver the whole school strategic priorities. You will be expected to do anything reasonable required by the Headteacher and Principal.

  1. As a teacher: Deliver the Early Years curriculum, modelling outstanding practice, in an innovative and inspirational way. To have high expectations of all students and to track progress using ongoing formative assessment and observations of pupils. Summative assessments will be used to support overall teacher assessments. To maintain a positive learning climate in accordance with the school’s procedures and encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour and standards of work. To assess students’ work in line with school policies and procedures, referring to student performance targets.
  2. Other responsibilities: To continue personal development and participate in the school’s staff development programme. To engage actively with the school’s performance management programme. To attend staff meetings, open evenings, and parents’ evenings. To attend morning assemblies and staff morning briefing unless on duty.

Requirements:
  • Qualification: Full Primary teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE with QTS or equivalent)
  • Some experience in a primary school (ideally British curriculum) but suitable also for someone recently qualified.
  • Language skills: Candidates must demonstrate a high level of English fluency appropriate for classroom instruction. Additional languages are considered an asset.
  • Right to work in Spain: Candidates must already have the legal right to work in Spain.
If you do not currently hold the legal right to work in Spain, you will be required to provide the following documents in order to support a work permit application:
  • University degree certificate
  • PGCE and/or QTS certificate (or equivalent teaching qualification)
  • Valid passport
  • Police clearance certificates from all countries of residence (issued no more than 3 months prior to submission)

BSB City is our newest British international campus for children aged 3-18, located in the heart of Barcelona. It brings our international, future-focused BSB education to students from Early Years to Pre-University.

BSB City comprises two buildings that together cover all educational stages: the Foundation Campus and the Luca Campus.

The Foundation Campus, an inspirational school located in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, is now open for our youngest students. The spectacular BSB City Luca Campus opened in September 2023, extending our provision in Barcelona for students up to Pre-University.
