Job overview

A Primary Teacher is needed for Southern International School Hatyai, a rapidly growing, co-educational Cambridge International School in the prosperous and friendly southern city of Hat Yai in Thailand. We currently offer classes from pre-school to age 16.

The Secondary school follows Cambridge Secondary 1 and IGCSE, whilst in Primary we closely follow the National Curriculum and we use the highly regarded International Primary Curriculum or IPC. We are about to embark on international accreditation for the first time, so our next two years should to be very busy and exciting. Our Primary classrooms are colourful and spacious with air conditioning, interactive whiteboards and full internet access. There are typically ten to fifteen children of mixed abilities in each year group. For children whose English skills are a little behind the class average they can take classes with our EAL teacher either individually or in groups of two or three. We provide teachers with the best English and Maths textbooks from the UK, and you are welcome to request your own. While subjects such as Maths, English and IPC units are taught in the classroom, other lessons such as Music, PE and Art are taught in other parts of the school. If teachers wish to conduct a Science lesson they can make an appointment to use the Secondary Science lab. Field trips are a great way to expand children's horizons and we provide all the help needed for risk assessment and organisation for these trips such as to the museum, historic Songkhla old town or the beach. For break times, outside there is a covered, fully equipped play area for basketball and football, and a shaded garden for the exclusive use of primary students. Our parents are mostly from the growing young professional classes, business leaders and expat workers from the nearby offshore gas companies.Hat Yai in Songkhla province has grown from a small but busy commercial town into a lively but manageable city of a little over a million, surrounded by rice paddies, forested hills and waterfalls. The tourist hot spots of Krabi, Trang and Phuket are easily accessible for long weekend trips, but there are several unspoiled destinations much closer to home. New upmarket bistros and restaurants are springing up seemingly overnight, adding to the cosmopolitan feel of this welcoming city. Accommodation is cheap and varied, from Thai-style houses to newly built, self-contained condominiums with shared swimming pools. Our School is about to enter its third year of operation with over 110 children, mostly in Primary and, due to reorganization, we are seeking a Primary Teacher to join our team in August 2017.We need a caring, compassionate and enthusiastic qualified teacher, B.Ed., PGCE or equivalent, who can speak fluent English. You should be a team player and have excellent overall knowledge of the National Curriculum. For overseas teachers we provide a housing allowance, healthcare and a contribution to flights from and to your country of origin. Visas and work permits are taken care of by our liaison officer. We also provide scholarships for up to two dependent children. Please apply with a full CV and documentation, including a background check such as DBS, ACRO or similar to: hr@southerninter.com or visit our website www.southerninter.com.

About Southern International School HatYai

The Southern International School Hat Yai was established in 2015 to serve the needs of both Thai nationals and expatriates in the region who wish their children to have a broad and balanced international education. School enrolment currently stands at approximately 190 students with classes ranging from Early Years to Year 11. The Primary section follows the International Primary Curriculum whilst the curriculum for Years 7-11 is based on the National Curriculum of England and follows Cambridge Secondary 1 and IGCSE.

In June 2019 we were awarded the  ISQM Silver accreditation, a massive achievement for such a young school. Our report describes us a '"good school" and notes that "Students' personal development and the school's partnership with parents are outstanding." It adds, "Teachers' subject knowledge is outstanding" and "Teachers plan lessons that are exciting and interesting."

At a recent marketing event we had a tremendous amount of support from our  current parents, who spoke openly to prospective parents about the trust they placed in our school and the amount of individual care and attention paid to their children by our teaching staff. The students feel nurtured, cared for and have many opportunities to learn 21st Century skills and eternal values. We are a happy school. Please look at our Facebook page to get a feel for our culture.

As a young school we are looking for people who are not only excellent teachers but  also willing to contribute to the overall development of the school over the coming years as we make innovation, creativity, integrity, development and professionalism the core values of everyone working at the school. If you would like to be part of a team working together in a professional and collegiate environment then this is the school for you. We are happy for any shortlisted candidate to communicate with our current teachers to get their perspective on living in Hat Yai and working at SIH.
