Job overview

Les Voies School are looking to appoint with effect from 1st September 2017 an innovative, dynamic and well-qualified teacher to teach Key Stage 2 students. You will be a teacher with experience of successfully enabling children and young people with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

The successful candidate will have the ability to build excellent relationships with school staff, parents and professionals from other agencies, have high expectations of pupils, and have resilience in managing the significant demands of working with the most challenging pupils in our schools. You will also be expected to teach in a range of Curriculum/Skills Development Areas. You will need to demonstrate a commitment to high standards of teaching and learning and will be expected to make a full contribution to the life of the School.

Les Voies is a specialist educational provision for pupils with significant social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, many of whom have involvement from other agencies, such as Child and Adolescent Mental Health services (CAMHS), Social Services and the Child, Youth and Community Tribunal.

The aim is to ensure that as a school the needs of pupils with SEBD are met and they have opportunities commensurate with their peers.

You should have an understanding of strategies and systems which promote successful learning and positive behaviour. You should have a strong empathy with a desire to meet the needs of these pupils.

Applicants should be confident in the use of target setting, monitoring and assessment procedures that are an integral part of a professional approach to behaviour management. An understanding and awareness of personal and social skills work is also desirable.

The organisational arrangement for teaching may vary but will generally be in small group settings supported by a Teaching Assistant. All teachers are required to undertake the role of pastoral tutor for a group of named pupils.

This post carries a five year housing licence. If appointed, you can expect to:

  • Work in a well-resourced school that follows an innovative Bailiwick curriculum based on the English National Curriculum and which has favourable PTRs;
  • Be part of a leading development of ICT in education and be allocated a personal laptop;
  • Receive a generous relocation package to the island, including rent allowance;
  • Enjoy the benefits of more generous tax allowances on an island with no VAT.

For further information about the post, please contact Jon Furley, Headteacher on tel. 0783977158 or email: Jonathan.Furley@lesvoies.sch.gg
