Job overview

We are seeking to appoint experienced and committed teachers, initially within our primary department, that have a passion for teaching children with SEND. No additional qualifications in SEND are required, but some experience in teaching children with SEND whether in a special or a mainstream setting would be desirable.

To be successful, you will have a firm but nurturing approach, a relentless focus on pupil progress and high expectations of pupil learning and behaviour. You will also have a creative and innovative approach to engaging pupils and overcoming barriers to learning. Our class sizes are small, with 1 Teacher, alongside a Learning Assistant, taking up to 6 pupils.

Posts would suit primary practitioners with a record of good and outstanding teaching. Experience and passion for working with pupils who have social, emotional and mental health needs as well as those with significant learning needs is essential. Training in approaches to teaching our pupils will be provided for the successful applicant e.g. physical intervention, autism. Applicants must be committed to their own professional development and be willing to engage in training opportunities.

Your application should demonstrate your commitment, knowledge and passion for working with children with SEND along with a willingness and enthusiasm to contribute further to the wider life and ethos of the school. You will be required to teach maths, English and a range of other subjects. Please include your curriculum strengths and interests in your application.

Are you a class teacher who is:

  • exceptional, inspiring and motivating?
  • driven by a passion to make learning fun, exciting and challenging?
  • committed to inclusive and ‘ASD friendly’ practice including high quality first teaching?
  • able to create a stimulating learning environment which encompasses pupils’ interests within provision for teaching and learning activities?
  • able to work hard to ensure that gaps in learning are closed including communication and social skills?
  • able to communicate effectively?
  • able to address behaviours associated with autism through a positive, consistent and calm approach, including intervention for positive handling if required?

To be successful, you will be an enthusiastic, experienced or newly qualified primary teacher dedicated to meeting pupils’ individual learning needs; within a positive learning journey towards helping them to achieve their aspirations.

About us

We opened in a purpose-built provision in June 2013 for pupils aged 4-16 with ASD. All pupils have an EHCP.  We have been making excellent progress since then and are entering a new phase in our journey to become outstanding . In September 2017, we were graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted who, stated that “Behaviour is good, and pupils have positive attitudes to learning and stay safe”. We have high aspirations for the future and aim to be a centre of excellence for educating pupils with ASD.

We can offer:

  • excellent training and CPD to develop your teaching and learning skills in meeting the needs of all pupils within the spectrum of ASD
  • an amazing staff team who are both supportive and dedicated
  • incredibly rewarding, remarkable pupils
  • support and guidance from a highly committed leadership team
  • a small class size working with an experienced learning support assistant
  • great outdoor spaces to enhance teaching and learning activities
  • a behaviour support team

We are keen to develop staff, with potential middle leadership opportunities available. This is a fantastic opportunity for a primary teacher wishing to work in a unique and highly fulfilling learning environment. Experience of working with children with autism or special needs would be advantageous but not essential.  We are looking for strong, highly dedicated primary teachers with a passion to develop their knowledge and skills in meeting the needs of all learners. As part of The Greenwood Academy Trust, we are committed to high quality continuing professional development and will ensure a variety of learning opportunities including training courses via our Learning Alliance, in house training and opportunities for sharing best practice.

Please state in your application whether you are applying for a permanent, a fixed term role or would consider either.
