The School

Sutton Valence School, a leading English co-educational independent day and boarding school, in association with Hopeland International Kindergarten Group, a successful, Chinese-owned independent education provider, opened this new co-educational, dual curriculum Preparatory School for 7-12 year-olds in Tianjin, China’s sixth largest city, in September 2017.

The School is highly successful and expanding rapidly. It now requires full time, English-speaking Classroom Teachers, to work in this first-class environment. The School offers a dual curriculum (English and Chinese) with subjects taught in both languages and with the pupils integrated for many activities and community events.

Whilst it is not essential, it would be an advantage if candidates could also offer a specialism or interest in one or more of Art, Drama, Games or ESL.

The School aims to inspire its students, and enhance their education and cultural understanding. We want to prepare them for the opportunities available in a highly connected world. This global outlook is expressed in the ethos of the four-journeys, which is promoted by Sutton Valance school.

HIKSVS provides expertise, resources and a rigorous set of academic standards as laid out by Sutton Valence School in Kent, UK. Our aim is also to provide further opportunities for professional development and enhancement programmes for our staff.

Working at HIKSVS

HIKSVS International School is a very exciting and unique place to work. The vision for the School is distinctive and compelling, offering the Sutton Valence ethos of ‘Four Journeys’ and blending the very best of educational practice from western and eastern traditions.

If you work for HIKSVS International School, you will have the opportunity to live in a beautiful city, work in a school located near the most wonderful lake and parkland, develop your professional practice through this blend of educational traditions, and most importantly, you will be able to play a key role in creating and developing a leading educational project in China. You will be a part of the first stand-alone Preparatory or Primary School partnership by a Chinese school with a leading English public school.

We are committed to the most exciting development of teaching and learning, developing a dual curriculum in which international and domestic Chinese pupils can be taught separately for some subjects but are integrated for others. We promote international understanding and global citizenship values.

The School is seeking dynamic, well-qualified, committed and inspiring Teachers, to commence in post in August 2019.

If you wish to find out more about the school and apply, please drop your CV to and contact the SVS International Coordinator, Mrs. Sherrie LU, on lus@svs.org.uk

About HIKSVS International Bilingual School

Tianjin, China

Location: Tianjin is one of the four municipalities in China. Its name means 'the place where the emperor crossed the river'. Facing the Bohai Sea, the city, one-time imperial port, serves as Beijing's vital gateway to the sea.

Tianjin is one of the most well-known and desirable places to live in China. With only 30 minutes on the high-speed rail train to Beijing, the capital of China, it offers low living expense advantage whilst maintaining an excellent standard of living. It is a very convenient hub for travel and exploring other countries in this dynamic and vibrant region.

Tianjin Binhai International Airport (IATA: ZBTJ) is located in the east of the urban area, in Dongli District, which is only 15 km (9 miles) to the east of the urban area. It is a second alternative to high-speed train, especially if wanting to reduce the added travel time and cost that comes associated with flying into Beijing -- just some 120 km (75 miles) from Tianjin. The city is also served by Beijing Capital International Airport and the new Beijing Daxing International Airport, which was completed in 2019.

A few popular routes are available from Tianjin Binhai International Airport, including Auckland, Bangkok, Hiroshima, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Kuala Lumpur, London, Moscow, Nagoya, Osaka, Seoul-Incheon, Singapore, Taipei-Songshan and Tapei-Taoyuan. However, the destinations are far more than that if Beijing Capital International Airport and Daxing International Airport are taken into account, which is so near. Because the fairly short distance between the two cities, and bullet train service available, consider both cities as an arrival point.

As a dual-core city, Tianjin is divided into the old city and the Binhai New Area. Binhai New Area is a new growth pole in China, and it maintained an annual growth rate of 8.2% of the GDP in 2023. As of the same year, about 120 Fortune Global 500 companies had made presence in Binhai. It is a base of China's advanced industry, financial reform, and innovation.

In urban population, the city ranks eighth in China and its urban land area (Binhai New Area is not included) is sixth after Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Tianjin's urban area is located along Haihe River, which connects to the Yellow and Yangtze Rivers via the Grand Canal in Tianjin. Tianjin was once home to foreign concessions in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China era. The municipality incorporates the coastal region of Tanggu, home to the Binhai New Area and the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA).
