Job overview

Day Waterman College is a purpose-built, co-educational boarding school designed to accommodate 500 students aged 11 to 16. It occupies a magnificent 35-acre site, located in the peaceful area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, one hour’s drive from south Lagos.

Founded by local philanthropist, the late Tayo Aderinokun, it opened in 2009 with the aim of providing a world class education to rival the leading UK independent boarding schools, to which many Nigerians have traditionally sent their children. Students follow the English National Curriculum at KS3 and KS4 and post 16 provision is being planned.

An Acting Principal currently leads the school and the Governing Body is now looking to appoint a Principal to:

  • Provide inspirational and motivational leadership, vision and direction across the college
  • Work with the senior leadership team to deliver a broad, balanced, interconnected curriculum and co-curricular programme, supported by effective monitoring, analysis and feedback and rigorous staff development
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people within the college establishing a culture in which students can flourish and thrive
  • Effectively position and market the college as the Nigerian educational institution of choice for students aiming to graduate to Russell Group or Ivy League universities
  • Ensure that the budget is efficiently and effectively managed

You are an existing Headteacher or an ambitious Deputy with experience of school leadership, gained in either a UK independent boarding school or an international school delivering the English National Curriculum. You have the drive and ambition to lead our college and an understanding of the academic qualities and standards required to fulfil its ambitions. Experience of working in an international setting and tailoring an English National Curriculum to meet local needs will be highly advantageous. Supportive of the school’s Christian ethos, you are committed to the holistic development of our students’ intellectual, moral, spiritual, artistic and physical potential.

In return for your energy, passion and creativity, we offer you the opportunity to shape and develop an already successful college to become one of the continent’s leading schools. This is a “not to be missed” chance to achieve a significant and highly rewarding milestone in your own career. You will lead a highly committed team in which every member of staff cares and benefit from the support of a generous benefactor committed to providing first class facilities that provide extensive opportunities for student enrichment.
