Job overview

ARE YOU AN ASPIRING PRIMARY SENIOR LEADER LOOKING FOR YOUR FIRST PRINCIPALSHIP?

The Harris Federation is a successful, highly collaborative and enterprising group of academies in and around London. Our network of academies is setting standards of excellence through an experienced and supportive approach with the aim that every child in London can have the best possible education, enabling them to fulfil their potential and decide their own future. The focus of the Harris Federation is on transforming some of the most challenging schools in London into exceptional places of learning.

We are looking for a highly motivated and inspirational leader to join the Harris Federation as part of our Accelerated Principal programme. We are offering a two year, full time preparation placement aimed at current deputy or assistant heads who are aspiring for their first Headship. Our 24 month programme provides two 12 month placements in contrasting Harris academies, and a bespoke mentoring and support plan in preparation for full Principalship with a Harris academy on completion of the programme.

The programme will begin with a placement at Harris Primary Academy Purley Way, a three year old free school located in Croydon. The academy is located in an impressive, purpose built, three storey building and benefits from state of the art technology, resources and facilities.

The Harris Federation is a leading Multi Academy Trust with an exceptional track record of rapid transformation and improving primary education in London. Our Principals lead their academies autonomously, but work collaboratively. We look for talented individuals who can lead, inspire others and help transform schools into exceptional places of learning.

If you are a senior leader looking for headship in the next two years, our fast track programme is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly supportive MAT as part of our succession planning to create the next generation of school leaders.

About Primary Education at Harris:

Primary education at Harris comprises 19 Primary academies, plus 3 all-through academies, with every inspected academy has been judged Good or Outstanding (59% Outstanding). Some of these academies are new free schools, but most were previously failing schools located in challenging areas of London.

According to the Education Policy Institute, Harris has been the top performing Primary trust for pupil progress compared to any Multi Academy Trust or Local Authority in each of the past two years. Our group results were 76% at Key Stage 2 this summer. Our academies are generally located in areas of disadvantage and all of our academies are in or close to London.

Why work for the Harris Federation?

As a top performing Multi-Academy Trust, we offer access to a professional and supportive community of academies, executive leaders, and support. Primary at Harris comprises a strong central team of superb teaching and learning consultants, as well as a team of Executive Principals and a Primary Director.

Harris is a Federation and not a chain; each Harris academy is different, reflecting the particular aspirations and leadership style of its Principal. We are looking for an individual who wants to help transform Education in London, and create exceptional places of learning.

If you would like to discuss the post in confidence please call Sabeena Hasan, Regional Primary Director, on 020 8253 7777.

The Harris Federation is a not-for-profit educational charity with almost 25 years of education experience in and around London. Our primary, secondary, all-through and sixth form academies have an international reputation for delivering a step change in education standards.

In joining a Harris Academy, you will be working with some of the country’s most exceptional teachers, support staff and leaders. There are frequent opportunities for internal exchange and promotion; our CPD is regularly described as Outstanding; and we have a package of staff benefits that rivals the most competitive of other professions.

Each Harris Academy is led and run by its senior leaders and has its own curriculum and way of doing things. What our Academies share, however, is a commitment to giving their children and teenagers an excellent education within a happy, caring and supportive environment.

There are Harris Academies in many different settings – inner city and suburban – but they are all within a maximum ninety minute commute from each other. This enables a highly collaborative structure, with on-call support from the Harris Federation.

You can find out more on our website (www.harrisfederation.org.uk) or by following us on Twitter (@HarrisFed).
