The Board of Governors of Sullivan Upper School invites applications for the post of
Principal which will fall vacant on 1 September 2022.
Sullivan Upper School is a co-educational, non-denominational voluntary grammar school established in 1877 and currently attended by 1249 pupils aged between 4 and 18 years. The school is situated in Holywood, Co Down and has a proud tradition of academic excellence which is complemented by a broad and enriching co-curriculum to provide a rounded education. To sustain and enhance this successful track record the Board of Governors is now seeking to appoint a Principal with significant experience of educational leadership, together with the vision, enthusiasm and commitment to effectively address the challenges of a changing educational environment and to lead the School into its next phase of development.

About Sullivan Upper School
Sullivan Upper School, situated in Holywood County Down, is a voluntary grammar school school with a preparatory department and a sixth form. It educates girls and boys aged between 4 and 18. There are 1,249 children on the roll at present. Sullivan Upper School was founded in 1877 by the trustees of the estate of Robert Sullivan, a resident of Holywood who rose to a position of authority and influence in Irish education.The School is a registered charity and is owned and managed in all its affairs by the Board of Governors.
Sullivan Upper School is a selective voluntary grammar school and the emphasis is strongly academic; the School places a high value on academic achievement. The School is popular and oversubscribed with applicants to Year 8. Pupils entering the School at age 11 begin a 5-year course of study leading to GCSE examinations, in which they will be expected to enter for at least 9 subjects, and it is anticipated that the vast majority of those who take GCSE examinations will remain at school for a further 2 years to take GCE AS and Advanced Level courses before going to universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
