Job overview

With over 1,200 students of over 50 nationalities, Sheffield Park Academy is a diverse and inclusive 11-18 school. The academy provides students with a broad and ambitious curriculum and an exciting range of enrichment opportunities. The school has some of the key foundations for success, with a dedicated staffing body, a commitment to education with character, and a vibrant school community.

However, we know that there is still much to do to secure and sustain success at Sheffield Park Academy. This appointment will enable the new Principal to make their mark on the school from day one by investing in excellent teaching, focusing on excellent behaviour, and delivering highly effective student support so that all students achieve and progress well. Under new leadership, we expect Sheffield Park Academy to undergo significant and sustained improvement in the years ahead.

Fortunately, staff are capable, hardworking and want the absolute best for their students. To deliver this, we are looking for a Principal with the vision, ambition and tenacity to drive forward improvements in standards and outcomes at the school, with the empathy and strength of leadership to bring pupils, parents and staff with them.

As in any city with substantial wealth and a highly educated population, those who grow up in areas of lower wealth and less parental education can be in particular need of excellent role models, adults who believe in them and show them what they can do and be.

If you are a Principal or outstanding Deputy who knows that children and young people can achieve beyond what society may believe is possible and will build a team and a school to make it a reality, we will be excited to read your application. Reporting directly to the Regional Director, we will support you both personally and professionally, bringing the strength of a national group to supporting your development and that of your staff and school, ensuring you have access to educational expertise, specialist finance, HR and technology business partners. United Learning is deeply committed to the progress, success and safeguarding of all children and young people. We believe in serving local communities through creating excellent schools which provide outstanding education and support all the children of the area.

Our Headteachers are central not only to the leadership of their school but also to the collective leadership of the group. As a group, we aim to offer more by working together than any single school could on its own: we aim to support and develop leaders, provide excellent professional development for all staff and offer broader experiences for children and young people.

We are committed to fairness, diversity and inclusion. We are currently working hard to improve representation of black, Asian and minority ethnic leaders at headship level and to raise our proportion of women leaders to match their representation in our wider workforce. Whoever you are, if you have a strong track record of improving young people’s education and a drive to do more, we very much look forward to hearing from you.
