The Vacancy

Thank you very much for your interest in becoming Principal of Glenmoor & Winton Academies.

Glenmoor & Winton Academies are two outstanding single-sex secondary academies, sharing a single site and staffing body, combining the benefits of single-sex classroom teaching with the range of opportunities the co-educational offer can provide. The academies provide an excellent educational experience to 1800 pupils aged 11-16, in the Ensbury Park area of Bournemouth.

The academies embody the best of United Learning, with a relentless commitment to high standards and a values-led approach to all aspects of school life. Young people leave the academies with the academic outcomes, integrity, compassion, and courage to be successful in their future endeavours. The new leader will understand what an exceptional education looks and feels like for every pupil, every day, and the strength of leadership to make this possible.

This is a unique headship opportunity. The new leader will be integral to the next chapter of two schools that are nationally recognised for their excellence in pedagogy and outcomes, extending their impact across the South West through the Behaviour and Teaching Hubs that operate through the schools. Under great leadership, we believe these hubs can play a key role in the recruitment, retention, and development of great teachers and leaders across the region, resulting in transformational change for education in the South West.

Glenmoor and Winton Academies are part of United Learning. We are a big group of schools – with over 60,000 pupils and more than 9,000 staff – so we have the capacity to support you educationally and operationally.

At the same time, we base all that we do on good relationships, so you will be joining a big family. Reporting directly to the Regional Director, you will be supported both personally and professionally, benefitting from the strength of a national Group supporting your development and that of your staff and schools.

We are committed to fairness, diversity and inclusion. We are currently working hard to improve representation of black, Asian and minority ethnic leaders at headship level and to raise our proportion of women leaders to match their representation in our wider workforce.

Whoever you are, if you have a strong track record of improving young people’s education and a drive to do more, we very much look forward to hearing from you.

United Learning

United Learning is a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer life-changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum, and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff's wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone.

United Learning is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

All positions are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and shortlisted candidates will be subject to an online check.

United Learning values diversity and inclusion and is committed to creating and sustaining a more diverse workforce. We welcome applications from professionals of minority ethnic origin and from majority ethnic professionals who share our commitment to inclusion and diversity.
