OIAM is a unique organisation, comprising its Free School and range of established Community Education Programmes. Our school is small in size (forming a school of 420 by 2019). Driven by its core values and emphasis on sports, creative arts and enterprise, OIAM has created an innovative approach to improving the opportunities and life chances for the young people in Bradford. The Charity creates a synergy between its schools and community programmes through its Hub and Spoke model. The Principal will be expected to lead OIAM Free school's place within this.

We welcome applications from existing Headteacher’s, Principal’s  or Deputy Headteacher's who have experience of leading in good or outstanding schools and have demonstrable high quality leadership within the 11-18 phase. We would consider an outstanding Headteacher from a Primary School.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in Bradford, which is situated within some of the most breathtaking countryside in England and boasts two UNESCO sites. The city itself is a wonderful place to live and work and is steeped in cultural and industrial history, with a rich and varied mix of cultures and languages.

We are looking for a Principal who will:

  • Secure the commitment of the whole school community to the vision and direction of the OIAM Academy Trust.
  • Develop further the Free School’s place within the Hub and Spoke and Wheel of Hope models.
  • Create a learning culture based on our Core Values of compassion, honesty integrity and excellence.
  • Ensure that the quality of learning is at the heart of the organisation and management of the school.
  • Maintain and extend an ethos and provide vision and direction that secures outstanding teaching, successful learning and achievement by all students.
  • Safeguarding the wellbeing of our students at all times.
  • Think creatively and imaginatively about the school’s development, to anticipate and resolve problems and to identify opportunities that will benefit students.
  • Develop and monitor the School Development and Self Evaluation plan, reporting regularly to the Governing Body and Director of Education.
  • Continue to develop effective relationships with the DfE, local schools, education partners and further and higher education establishments.
  • Be responsible for the overall management of all academy resourcing, developing and proposing the annual budget to the Finance Committee, ensuring it is consistent with the school’s priorities.

About One In A Million Free School

We are delighted that you have shown an interest in our unique and popular secondary Free School.

One In A Million Free School was last inspected by Ofsted on 13-14th June 2023 and was judged as requires improvements.  Previous to this, the school was inspected 20-21st March 2018 and received a good judgement under the previous framework.

OIAM Free School opened in September 2013. We are a small secondary school with classes sizes of no more than 26 students. Our school is now fully populated. Each year we are oversubscribed for places, but we will remain a small school.

One In A Million Free School is part of One In A Million which is a Bradford based charity that engages predominantly with disadvantaged children and young people, through Sports, Arts and Enterprise. Our core values of compassion, honesty, integrity and excellence are at the heart of all we do. Our name reflects our philosophy: every child is valued and unique.

Relationships are key to our offer and we will always adopt a family approach so that students feel valued and connected.

Our curriculum is broad and balanced, ensuring students acquire strong basic skills in literacy and numeracy, personal, social and emotional learning and create ‘character’. We develop themed pathways in Sports, Arts and Enterprise. Our school day ensures quality time for personal, instructional, conceptual and collaborative learning experiences.

Our staff nurture and develop a deep sense of self-worth, pride and ambition in all our students. All students in our school will be seen as unique - as ‘one in a million’.

Since One In A Million started its first community project in Canterbury, Bradford, in 2006, we now deliver formal education and community programmes to over 2,300 children and young people every week.

Our ‘Hub and Spoke’ vision places our Free School at the centre of what we do.
