The Role

As Principal, you will be responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the academy. Working with the Regional Director, you will lead the staff in realising the vision of establishing and developing a unique, extended learning community that will cater for every child - academically, vocationally, socially, morally, spiritually, physically, emotionally and environmentally.

About the Academy

Oasis Academy Byron ( is a fully inclusive one-form entry Primary Academy driven by a powerful ethos that aspires to treat everyone inclusively and recognises the importance of a holistic approach to education.

As well as delivering a first-class education, the experienced staff team work hard to build a strong community, recognising that educational needs do not exist in isolation from the needs of the whole person. The Academy is located in Coulsdon and its extensive grounds have been developed to support enriching outdoor opportunities such as Forest School, gardening, artistic and sporting activities.  Over recent years, the Academy has received a significant number of awards in recognition of the high quality curriculum it provides: The Quality Inclusion Mark, Gold Arts Mark, Bronze Learning for Outside the Classroom, Leading Parent Partnership Award, Gold Schools Games Mark, Pupil Premium Regional Champions, Croydon Primary School of the Year, Unicef Rights Respecting Schools, Healthy Schools Award Croydon, Healthy Schools Award Croydon and the TfL Travel Stars Award. Ofsted recognised the quality of education at the Academy by awarding an Outstanding judgement in June 2016.

Effective Support

We do not expect you to do this alone. You will enjoy the support and challenge of a Regional Director along with the wider OCL National Team. By being part of a family of 52 Oasis Academies, you will work alongside expert leaders in their field and benefit from a strong support network and partnership with other Oasis Community Learning Primaries within the region.  You will have many opportunities to share best practice and drive continual improvement, including an annual Regional conference, Regional Improvement Networks and access to a growing CPD programme nationally.

Growth and development

Children are able to flourish in its nurturing culture which embraces inclusivity and values everyone for their individuality.  Provision for children who have high-level special educational needs is strong. Children enjoy coming to school and this is reflected in the high attendance and good behaviour – our children are polite, considerate and respectful towards adults and each other.  Staff benefit from strong CPD and use a variety of teaching techniques to make sure that every child has the best start to their educational journey.
