Job overview

Principal Designate required for Red Kite Academy in Corby, Northamptonshire - January 2018

Where falcons fear to fly is where you’ll find the Red Kite soaring. A special free school hatched from the collaboration of a group of outstanding special schools, we know the sky is no limit!

The School

As we prepare for flight, we need to appoint a Principal Designate to plan our journey, pilot us through pre-opening, launch us as a fully-fledged school in September 2018, and onward into our future.

Red Kite Academy will be a school for 100 children and young people aged between 4 and 18 and with a range of special educational needs (SLD/PMLD, ASD and HFA). Construction will be starting shortly on our site at Glastonbury Road, Corby. We are building a learning community that is concerned more with ‘cans’ than ‘can’ts’, that cherishes young people across the broadest range of their abilities and provides a rich and dynamic learning environment. Engagement will be our holy grail and it is our mission to do everything to ensure that each child will be, to the greatest extent possible, available for learning.

The Role

Our new Principal Designate will be values-driven, someone who instinctively innovates from a bedrock of SEN expertise to mine solutions from complex problems, order from disorder (but who is comfortable in chaos!)

They will be a courageous champion of children and families who knows and understands the landscape of SEN and special schools. They will have neuroscience embedded in their day-to-day practice and a sharp eye for advances in the specialist methodologies associated with special school learning. They will understand that this is a school that will choose its own path, will form its own destiny, bespoke to the needs and challenges of our children and families.

We don’t need a finished article (a spent force) but someone to share our quest in learning… a committed ‘learner for life’.

If your curiosity is piqued by this once-in-a-career opportunity, we would love to hear from you.
