Job overview

Principal Designate, Doncaster UTC

Salary range £75k - £80k according to experience (may be negotiable for an exceptional candidate)

From September 2019 (or earlier), for an opening date of September 2020

The Doncaster UTC is an incredibly exciting proposition. Developed by a number of major players in the city, its unprecedented levels of industry support include all the key firms within the city’s manufacturing, engineering, rail and construction sectors. Partnerships with the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University provide exceptional links into the HE sector. But that’s not all: the UTC will be part of a local multi-academy trust from the outset, and Doncaster Council has recently confirmed a central flagship site for our new building, with excellent connectivity in the heart of the new Civic and Cultural quarter.

Doncaster UTC’s 750 learners will follow a core academic and technical curriculum to GCSE and A-level equivalent, designed to support our specialisms of the latest rail engineering techniques, coding and 3D design skills, in an inspiring environment where young people can develop and reach their full potential. Working collaboratively with major employers and the University of Sheffield, Doncaster UTC will produce the next generation of highly skilled engineers and designers to ensure that businesses can continue to thrive and grow in the 21st century. Students will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in the engineering industry whilst studying for a range of qualifications.

Our Principal, joining us no later than September 2019, will lead the project through the pre-opening phase and secure the best education provision for students. Candidates for this high-profile and influential role will need to bring a credible, informed and extensive track record of leadership in a comparable setting, including experience of delivery towards post-16 outcomes. Collaboration and partnership have been invaluable aspects of our successful planning to date, and the ability to build and sustain effective business, employer, and community partnerships will be essential. Your personal leadership style must demonstrate that you can lead, manage, motivate and inspire staff, students, and the wider community. Flexible and intellectually strong, you must be able to adapt to the diverse demands of establishing a new centre of educational provision, and evidence of highly effective school leadership (including a sophisticated grasp of system leadership) is essential.

It’s a career-defining opportunity to deliver exceptionally well-designed and innovative provision, working alongside employers and academic partners. For more information, please visit www.dutc-principal.co.uk or contact Raymond Kelly  or David Gooda at Navigate NDC on 0113 493 1975 for an informal, confidential discussion.

Closing date: 10am, 29 April 2019.

Doncaster UTC is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. An enhanced DBS check will be required for this post.

Doncaster UTC will join the Brighter Futures Learning Partnership trust and will specialise in Engineering and Creative & Digital Technologies, providing a high-quality curriculum in co-operation with industry partners and is due to open Years 9 and 12 in September 2020. The school will work closely with a number of external bodies such as the University of Sheffield, Polypipe and VolkerRail. This is intended to ensure that students are able to maximise their employability and relevance in the modern workplace. Doncaster UTC will still offer a strong wider curriculum with subjects such as Geography and Business Studies.
