Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior leader with a passion for educating children with autism.

The Wherry School is planned to open in September 2017 with 48 learners. In four years it will grow to its full capacity of 100 students across the 4-19 age range. It has been established to meet a clear need in the area and is supported by a Trust and partners all of whom are successfully providing education and/or support to children and young people in the local area.

Leading the school from January 2017, you will work with the Chair of Governors and a supportive Trust to establish the school as a leading centre for Autism and a model for provision nationally. You will develop the Trust’s vision for the school, establishing solid foundations that will take it through a successful opening in September 2017 to the achievement of Good at its first Ofsted inspection in 2018.

Already a senior leader with a strong track record in Good or Outstanding provision, you will demonstrate excellent leadership and managerial skills. These will be complemented by highly developed interpersonal skills honed through successful inter-agency working. Your understanding of school finance and specifically SEN funding will be tested as you take the lead on hiring the best education, therapy and support staff to open the school. What will set you apart will be your relentless commitment to achieving high standards of teaching and learning and your passion for improving outcomes for people with Autism.

If you can demonstrate the boundless energy to thrive in this environment, please contact Barry Payne on exechead@parkside.norfolk.sch.uk to find out more about the role and to request an application pack. Please include a contact number in your email.

You can also download the application pack from our website at www.thewherryschool.co.uk

Applications will only be accepted if on the correct form – CV’s will be read but only alongside a completed application form.

Closing date: Monday 9th May 2016 – 12 noon
Shortlisting date: Thursday 12th May 2016
Interview dates: Wednesday 25th May and Thursday 26th May 2016.

The Wherry School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A full DBS check will be required for the successful candidate and all procedures and checks as in the school's Safeguarding Children Policy will be followed. The Wherry School is an Equal Opportunities Employer. This post is likely to come under the requirements of the Childcare (Disqualification) 2009 Regulations and the successful applicant will be required to complete a declaration form to establish whether they are disqualified under these regulations.
