Job overview

Salary: Group 8 - starting at L43: £108,283

NOR: 2,271

Start Date: 01 September 2017

This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a very large and successful 11 – 19 Academy in an idyllic location. The current Principal is retiring after 15 years of outstanding leadership, during which the College has become the first choice for over 90% of students in the area, making it truly comprehensive.  At the same time the results have improved significantly and Ofsted judgements have been consistently ‘good with outstanding features’.

The College is the only secondary provider in the town of Exmouth and numbers are set to grow in the near future. We are looking for a Principal who has the vision and commitment to take the College into the future, without losing the current strengths of attainment, outstanding behaviour and personal development.  We would expect applicants to have successful experience of headship already. For those who wish to relocate, East Devon is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with wonderful leisure and recreational facilities and a pleasant climate.  There are good road and rail connections to other parts of the UK.

A new chapter is about to begin for Exmouth Community College; if you think you are the person to lead the College through to the next stage of its development, please complete the Principal Application Form, which includes a letter of application (no more than two sides of A4), detailing the elements of your experience that are most relevant and useful to leading a large College and why you think you’re the right person for the job.

Please submit this to recruitment@exmouthcollege.devon.sch.uk by noon on the closing date.

We would strongly encourage you to arrange a visit to the College by contacting Gill Keddie, HR Manager, on 01395 255 666 or gillian.keddie@exmouthcollege.devon.sch.uk  We think that, if you do, you will really understand and be excited by the opportunities we have to offer.

Closing date: Noon on Friday 10 March 2017

Short listing: Tuesday 04 April 2017

Interviews: Monday 24 April 2017 – Wednesday 26 April 2017

We are committed to providing the best possible care and education for our students and safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expect all staff to share this commitment.  As part of our commitment, we need to ensure that all potential employees satisfy our employment checks.  A satisfactory Enhanced DBS Disclosure (with Barred List check) will be required before the successful candidate can commence employment at Exmouth Community College.  Please note that where appropriate, shortlisted and/or potentially suitable applicants will be required to undertake further checks.

About Exmouth Community College

Exmouth Community College is one of the largest secondary schools in the country with over 2,200 students currently enrolled (over 300 of these in Post 16). The College, which converted to Academy status in April 2011, is set in a leafy split-site location.  Our catchment area extends northwards towards Exeter city and eastwards to include Budleigh Salterton and many attractive rural villages.  The College embraces working as part of the community and has strong local partnerships.

Our mission is to provide a well-structured, enjoyable, and positive approach to learning that rewards student success and allows for individual aptitudes to flourish. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive College that caters to all abilities.

Our College provides a safe, secure, and non-threatening environment in which students can develop consideration for others, self-discipline and positive relationships. We strive to offer an education that prepares students for their future.

The Exmouth Community College Trust is overseen by the Governing Board who are committed to delivering the best comprehensive education for the young people of Exmouth and the surrounding villages.

We put the development of staff at the centre of our philosophy, including a unique Assistant Headteacher role with responsibility for our staff and their development. We take it really seriously, and very much subscribe to Richard Branson's mantra to develop our staff well enough so they can leave but treat them well enough so they don't want to.

There is a really strong sense of community at ECC. Through us all working together as staff, families and governors, and pulling together as one community, we will continue the great work to build a College that caters brilliantly for its community and prepares our young people for their future.

Exmouth Community College is a fully comprehensive academy committed to giving the best education and opportunities to all of our students. We invite you to explore our website to find out more about our College.
