Job overview

Character-First: Our unique ethos demands a unique leader.

In September 2005, Trinity Academy replaced Thorne Grammar School in its 75th year, with new purpose-built premises on the same site. Fourteen years later, we remain a founding school of the expanding Emmanuel Schools Foundation multi-academy trust dedicated to offering excellent education in Christian ethos schools of character for the whole community. With a particular emphasis on business, ICT and enterprise, we have an expanding sixth form - rated “Good” by Ofsted. Your skilled and inspiring leadership will drive improvement to take Trinity Academy to the next level.

Leading and managing the Academy as a Christian ethos school of character for the whole community, with a non-denominational approach, we will look to you to raise ambition and attainment for every one of our 1300 students. At the same time, you will coach and mentor your team so they too can be exemplars of best practice and imaginative thinking.

Trinity Academy, like all schools in deprived areas, has its challenges. If you have the determination, imagination and talent to drive rapid improvement whilst nurturing our distinctive and cherished community, we want to hear from you.

There is an occupational requirement for the post-holder to be committed and practising Christian. You will also have an inclusive mind-set and be a high-achieving graduate and qualified teacher with substantial secondary leadership experience. This will have given you a deep understanding of effective teaching and learning strategies, proven ability to lead staff development, and a real passion for improving lives and outcomes.

We’re a growing Trust and, for the right candidate, there will be opportunities to make a contribution across the Foundation in due course. Whether you already have experience as a Head Teacher or are currently a Deputy seeking an exciting and challenging role for your first Headship; you will be ready to take your next step – and will have the skills and ability to bring your vision to life.

If you would like to visit us, or to arrange an informal telephone conversation with our CEO, Professor Mark Pike, please contact the school and ask to speak to Mrs Lou Aldsworth (01405 81300 x107).

To apply, please complete an application form, together with a covering letter outlining your suitability for the post, and return it by the closing date to recruitment@esf-mail.org.uk

Closing date: 19th February 2020.

Interview date: w/c 24th February 2020.

We take our responsibility for safeguarding children very seriously and successful applications will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure via the DBS, along with standard pre-employment safeguarding checks.

Trinity Academy opened in September 2005 in a brand new £24m state-of-the-art building, which has since been extended to meet the demand for a vibrant sixth form. Trinity is a distinctive school: we believe that children are created in the image of God, infinitely (and intrinsically) precious, uniquely gifted, and morally responsible. We therefore dream big dreams for our students: they are the leaders of the future. Our task is to prepare them to exercise that leadership by raising aspiration, shaping character and stimulating minds.

At the heart of our school improvement journey is a conviction within the staff team that together we can make a difference. Expectations are therefore made clear to students and their parents, and teachers employ consistent routines to maintain high standards.   Teachers are subject experts, and we encourage a straightforward evidence-based pedagogy that sets teachers free to express their own individual style in the classroom.  We place a premium on high quality, bespoke continuing professional development and develop strong relationships between staff and students which are based upon mutual respect.

We seek colleagues for whom teaching is a vocation rather than a career, who set the highest standards for children regardless of starting point, and who believe in the transformative power of education.

Part of Emmanuel Schools Foundation, Trinity Academy has sister schools in Blyth, Gateshead, Middlesbrough and Sunderland.
