Job overview

PRINCIPAL

Bower Park Academy, Romford, Essex

L21-35 OLW (c. £70k – c. £96k)

Bower Park Academy, part of the Empower Learning Trust, is a warm, caring and supportive environment, where students are nurtured and encouraged to achieve success. With a motto of “Aspire to achieve, enjoy and excel”, we’re committed to excellence in all areas, and we value achievement in every field. As well as impressive academic outcomes, enrichment opportunities (including sport and drama) are offered at an unusually high level, and we are deeply committed to developing the whole person.

Our aim is that every child leaves school ‘life-ready’. We provide a stimulating and rounded education, which challenges our students and helps them to develop into responsible and caring citizens. The school has recently seen rapid and sustained improvement, built on a shared vision of better outcomes for all, and the Academy is now rated ‘Good’ across all categories by Ofsted (March 2018). This transformation has in turn led to a significant increase in demand, and applications for year 7 now exceed availability.

The retirement of our current Principal has created an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and passionate school leader to take up the reins and oversee the Academy’s continuing journey towards ‘Outstanding’. We want to hear from candidates who can show that they understand what’s needed for us to support all learners in achieving their full potential, whilst maintaining our excellent profile and reputation.

We’re looking for candidates with a finely-balanced blend of professional experience and personal qualities. You’ll share the overarching educational philosophy of the Trust, and the ethos of the school, and will exemplify the core values – Respect, Passion, Endeavour, Aspiration – that drive the success of our students. An experienced school leader with a demonstrable track record of effectiveness, you’ll possess a detailed and practical understanding of how the highest-performing schools operate and hold themselves to account. Moreover, you’ll have a clear perspective on how we can build on recent achievements, maintaining and extending our ambition for the school and its community.

Empower Learning Academy Trust was established in 2016 with the goal of making the most of our collective experience and expertise to support and develop a growing family of local schools. We are determined to inspire the members of that family to provide opportunities for our pupils, staff and leaders to be the best they can be; to create a passion for lifelong learning; to enable our pupils to become confident and impactful world citizens. We share an inspiring ethos of continual improvement, where powerful teaching, challenge, support and accountability lie at the heart of creating environments that focus relentlessly on the needs of the learning community and deliver outstanding outcomes for all pupils.

Closing date: 10.00am, Tuesday 26th November 2019.

At Bower Park Academy we have the great privilege to educate other people’s children, bringing with it a huge responsibility to provide the best education in an environment where we endeavour to develop the whole child as we aim to prepare young people for happiness and success in their adult lives.  We offer a broad, balanced curriculum that ensures students master relevant knowledge, concepts and skills of a wide range of disciplines, whilst fostering a lifelong love of learning.

The Academy is at the heart of the local community, providing a caring and supportive environment where students are nurtured and supported to achieve success.  We provide high‑quality learning for all students and believe that, no matter what their starting point or personal circumstances, every student can achieve success.

In September 2016, Bower Park joined the Empower Learning Academy Trust (ELAT), with Hall Mead School, Hacton Primary School, Ardleigh Green Junior School, Ardleigh Green Infants School and The Brittons Academy.  Hall Mead, as the sponsor, is an outstanding school with teaching school status. The Trust is using best practice development to support all staff across the schools to improve the quality of provision.  In this way, ELAT is helping the schools to rapidly improve the quality of provision to ensure success for all students.

We will equip every student with the skills, attributes, values and qualifications necessary to lead highly successful adult lives.
