Job overview

Are you looking for a new and exciting challenge, working in a school with beautiful surroundings in an attractive part of the United Kingdom?

Wynstones Steiner Waldorf School is looking for someone with experience of leadership in an educational setting. You will be passionate about the ‘whole’ education of children with a focus not just on academic success, but also on developing young people to be creative and critical thinkers.

One of the oldest Steiner Waldorf schools in the UK, Wynstones offers a co-educational education to children of all ages, from Kindergarten through to Class Twelve. In the older years we run GCSE and A-Level courses alongside the core Waldorf curriculum. We strive to guide pupils to become unprejudiced and creative young people who are responsible and practical contributors to society.

We are excited about this opportunity. Although at our Ofsted inspection last March we failed to meet a number of Independent School Standards, our subsequent Post Monitoring Inspection reported that most of these have now been met, and of the few remaining unmet standards, considerable and rapid improvement had been made. Significant energy will be required, but you will be joining a strong community of pupils, teachers, families and friends ready to meet the challenges that lie ahead as we look forward to an exciting new chapter in our history.

We offer a salary commensurate with a senior role working for a charity in this geographical area, together with flexible terms and a generous staff discount for school fees. Wynstones School is situated in an 11-acre estate near Gloucester and Stroud, and easily accessed from the M5 J12.

If you feel ready for a new challenge and enjoy working as part of a creative team of staff and teachers please do not hesitate to contact: recruitment@wynstones.com

Wynstones School is a co-educational independent school located in the city of Gloucester. First established in 1937, the school provides places for students aged 3-18. A Steiner Waldorf school, Wynstones has around 300 pupils on roll, making it smaller than the average school of its type. The school is situated on an 11 acre campus in a rural part of Gloucestershire, with an extensive array of modern teaching and recreational facilities including playing fields, tennis courts and a sports hall.

Values and Vision

As a Steiner Waldorf school, Wynstones School operates a very different curriculum and learning strategy compared to regular mainstream education. The school maintains a strong focus on pupil-driven, hands on activities, particularly for younger students. Qualitative assessments are often used as opposed to standardised testing, and the values of reason and empathy are widely encouraged throughout the school. Older pupils are expected to learn through their own ambition and inquisition, and maintain their own innate creativity and interests. The school does still offer GCSE and A-level qualifications as usual, and maintains a high academic standard for its pupils.

Schools Inspection Service

“The quality of the curriculum is good and has been maintained and developed since the last inspection. It has some outstanding features, which include the identification of and support for pupils with special educational needs, its provision for the expressive arts and the links that are made between subjects and topics in the curriculum. It follows the Steiner Waldorf principles in focusing on a single two-hour Main Lesson, followed by individual lessons in more specialised subjects, such as modern foreign languages.”
