The Board of Management of The King’s Hospital School invites applications from suitably qualified individuals for the post of Principal/Head to take effect from 1st September 2024 or to be agreed.

The King’s Hospital School is a fee charging co-educational boarding and day school, with a current enrolment of 720. The school is a Voluntary School Category (XV) under the trusteeship of The Church of Ireland.

This presents an exciting and fulfilling opportunity to lead a distinguished and forward-thinking boarding and day school. The King’s Hospital School offers a rich tapestry of history and progress with a vibrant and expansive community.

The King’s Hospital School, a historic boarding and day school, celebrated its  350th year in 2019. Situated on an 80-acre site in West Dublin, the school holds a unique position as both a full boarding and day school under the patronage of The Archbishop of Dublin and Glendalough, while also functioning as a Church of Ireland Parish. Throughout its long history, the school has adapted to societal changes, including becoming coeducational in the 1960s and being at the forefront of diversity and inclusion initiatives in recent decades.

As an educational institution deeply rooted in Church of Ireland values, The King’s Hospital School is committed to delivering Christian education within a plural society. The King’s Hospital School prioritises the holistic development of its students through a comprehensive pastoral care program designed to nurture their social and emotional well-being. Each of the five boarding houses has a house team, supported by matrons, with one staff member sleeping in a dedicated house bedroom. A nurse is on duty 24 hours a day, with the school doctor holding clinics twice a week.

Our completely refurbished boarding houses and social spaces offer our students the best of all worlds; a home away from home and the chance to become independent and self-reliant, whilst making friends for life.

We offer a comprehensive and progressive range of subjects, extensive specialist facilities and highly qualified teaching staff to assist and encourage all students to reach their full potential. Students pursue a six-year course on entering the school, leading to the Junior Cert and Leaving Cert State Exams.

Although a mixed ability intake most students sit their exam subjects at higher level, with an average of 95% progressing to 3rd level education each year.

The Performing Arts Department encompasses Drama, Music, Artistic Performance and Dance. In addition to Drama and Music tuition, students are given access to a variety of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to enable their talents in the Performing Arts to flourish during their time at The King’s Hospital School.
