Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced school leader to become Principal Repton Malaysia. The new Principal will continue the work of transforming Repton Malaysia from its previous incarnation as Excelsior International School, and realise its aspiration to become the one of the leading schools in Malaysia and the region.

Repton School was founded in 1557 in the heart of England and today is a world-class, co-educational day and boarding school. It is a modern, flourishing community with a clear sense of purpose and momentum, providing an exceptional broad-based education and impressive pastoral support. In 2007, Repton was one of the first UK independent schools to establish an overseas ‘branch’ school. The Repton Family of Schools now comprises seven international schools and two UK prep schools, and a further phase of international development is under way, coinciding with a strengthening of the group structure to ensure that Repton’s ethos, values and aims are at the core of all its schools.

Repton Malaysia has been established as a partnership between Repton in the UK and SEGSH, a school management company with a strong track record of running schools in the region. It is a strong partnership, founded on the shared ambition of Repton Malaysia becoming the top British-international school in Malaysia. The school is in Johor Bahru, and well-positioned to serve both local, national and international pupils as it expands into a boarding offer in due course. It is an English national curriculum school offering the IB Diploma alongside A Levels in the Sixth Form and with a co-curricular programme designed to deliver an outstanding holistic education in the best Repton traditions. Following the impacts of the pandemic, the school roll remains relatively modest and the new Head will strengthen educational delivery, as well as the marketing and admissions functions, developing all aspects of provision to guide the school towards its capacity.

This headship will require an experienced school leader, preferably with primary/junior as well as secondary experience, and with resilience and adaptability, excellent experience of the British curriculum, and a commitment to understanding how to make this an authentically Repton school in the distinctive context of Johor Bahru. The Principal will work closely with both SEGSH and the Repton Family of Schools, understanding the expectations of each. They will be able to establish and maintain the highest standards of teaching and learning and the systems and processes required in any leading school; they will recruit outstanding colleagues as the School grows and take a leading role in enabling the School to meet its enrolment targets.

The position is available from January 2023; for the right candidate, an April 2023 or later start may be negotiable.

Candidates should apply to the HR Manager at hr@repton.edu.my with a covering letter, a CV and a fully completed application form, which includes the names and contact information of three professional referees, by 12PM BST on Friday, 7th October 2022.

Please note, we will not be accepting applications through the TES portal.

Applicants will be contacted for interview if they have been successful. Long-list interviews will likely take place in the week commencing 17th October 2022 (subject to changes). We regret that, due to the large number of applications we receive, we are not able to contact unsuccessful applicants.
