Job overview

Founded in new, £20m buildings in 2009, Manchester Health Academy is a successful (OfSTED Grade 2 ‘Good’) and growing Academy in Manchester - a £10m expansion is currently underway to allow us to accommodate 1100 students from our original intake of around 600. Our lead sponsor is Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT), a major, internationally recognised, group of teaching hospitals. Manchester Health Academy students benefit from access to a comprehensive range of NHS expert practitioners and their working environment. As one of Manchester’s largest employers, CMFT is committed to improving educational experiences and life chances for the students in the Academy and across the city. Our other partners are Manchester City Council, with whom we have an excellent relationship, and the Manchester United Foundation.

The Academy Trust is led by a strong and visionary Board, who are seeking to appoint our next Academy Principal to lead the strategic development, growth and success of the Academy. We are seeking to appoint a leader who shares our vision of excellent education for all; who can lead our dedicated, professional staff and students to even greater success; who can inspire and influence individuals and teams and who has the energy, rigour and passion to ensure our Academy remains an outstanding place to learn as it grows.

Manchester Health Academy opened in 2009 as an 11-18 coeducational comprehensive Academy, situated in South Manchester close to the International Airport. Already providing a ‘Good’ education to more than 750 students, the Academy is growing each year and is projected to accommodate 1100 students by 2022. An ambitious £10m extension is currently underway and will provide additional, state-of-the-art facilities including the highest-quality sports facilities and brand-new English and Mathematics teaching spaces as well as enhancements to student dining facilities and social spaces.

Manchester Health Academy is a Good school (OfSTED Grade ‘2’), and we would like to further our journey to becoming an outstanding provider. The academy’s intake is truly comprehensive. We are a multicultural, multi-faith school which befits one of the country’s greatest cities, with a broad range of ability levels and we are developing an excellent local and national reputation. Manchester Health Academy is at the heart of our community and our facilities are used by a wide range of groups including the community library and sports facilities. We have very strong links with the Manchester United Foundation, our local primary schools, further and higher education institutions and local businesses in addition to a range of significant collaborations with local and national school partners, all of which enhance opportunities and outcomes for our young people.

This is an incredible opportunity to build on the success of a developing and well-regarded school with excellent facilities and dedicated staff, to be involved in system leadership and to shape future growth in one of the most dynamic cities in the country.

Our next Principal will be an outstanding, experienced leader, as either an existing, successful Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher. The successful candidate will be inspiring and have a collegiate and engaging people management style.
