Job overview

The Governors of Haberdashers' Monmouth Schools are looking to appoint an outstanding leader to the newly created post of Principal. He/she will provide overarching and strategic leadership to the family of five schools, which between them educate c. 1370 pupils aged 3 to 18 and employ 340 FTE members of staff. The creation of this post follows a strategic review of the way in which the schools communicate their brand and work together.  The Governors’ ambition is to develop the potential arising from the existence of five connected but non-competing schools, and the Principal will play a leading role in achieving this.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to be the first Principal in the schools' history, which dates back over 400 years.  The Haberdashers' Monmouth Schools are rooted in their community, located in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Wye Valley, and benefit from the financial stability provided by the William Jones’s Schools Foundation. The schools are high-performing and share a grounded and down to earth approach to education.  The Monmouth Model provides a mix of single-sex and co-education, with co-educational teaching in the Sixth Form being introduced in 2018/19.  The Principal will play a lead role in bedding in this major change, as well as driving other strategic priorities. The schools are supported by shared central resources and the Principal will also lead this team.

Candidates will be experienced leaders and very likely to have a background in education.  The Governors wish to appoint someone who has clarity of vision for how this family of schools can continue to thrive and evolve.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to the Governors on this appointment. For further information about the role, including details about how to apply, please visit www.saxbam.com/appointments using reference CAQYA. Alternatively email belinda.beck@saxbam.com  or telephone 020 7227 0880 (during office hours).

Applications should be received by noon on Thursday 8 February 2018.

Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
