Job overview

Bulwell Academy is an Ofsted Good, mixed academy of around 1000 pupils, located in a multimillion-pound, state of the art new building in Nottingham. Currently sponsored by the Edge Education Foundation, with Thomas Telford Schools providing support as a co-sponsor, the academy specialises in Business & Enterprise and has a small post 16 provision which is primarily vocational.

Bulwell Academy will be joining the Creative Education Trust family of schools during the summer 2018 term.

Creative Education Trust is therefore looking to replace the current interim Principal and appoint an exceptional permanent Principal who is able to take up post in September 2018 and rise to the challenge of:

  • providing inspirational and motivational leadership across the academy that raises aspirations and drives academic performance
  • delivering a rich and varied curriculum offer that meets students’ needs in an ever changing world
  • introducing and championing a culture that encourages initiative and accountability and strengthens the quality of leadership at all levels
  • addressing current areas of weak performance and maintaining a relentless focus on improving the quality of teaching and learning
  • developing effective working relationships with partners and stakeholders across the community to fulfil the academy’s goals

An existing Headteacher/Principal or an outstanding and ambitious Deputy with substantial experience of school leadership, you possess the ambition, skills and experience necessary to lead an academy that offers immediate challenge and longer term reward in equal measure. You are capable of addressing immediate performance issues that face the academy and developing sustainable strategies for its rapid improvement and longer term success. An inspirational leader with the ability to engage with and motivate staff, learners and parents alike, you have a track record of embedding real improvement and a real understanding of what effective teaching and learning look like. An effective communicator, you have an empathetic approach to people, are committed to fostering an environment in which learning thrives and where students are at the heart of everything. You are committed to developing a strong team of leaders, teachers and support staff to deliver a culture of continuous school improvement.

In return for your energy, passion and ambition, we offer you the whole hearted support of a very successful and growing multi-academy trust in welcoming and developing Bulwell Academy. You will also be rewarded with a highly attractive remuneration package, and the opportunity to work collaboratively with a group of highly talented Principals to drive the Trust’s future.

Everyone Achieves:
The Bulwell Academy is proud of its heritage yet is firmly placed in the 21st century.  We aim to provide an education tailored around each of our students to ensure they are ready to progress towards their future as successful 21st century citizens.

The building has been designed to provide a nurturing environment to stimulate young minds, through light and open classrooms, quieter independent learning areas and state-of-art learning and sporting facilities.  Our specialism, as a business and enterprise academy, focuses us on our key role in growing academic achievement, developing enterprising behaviours and strengthening the emotional intelligence of our students.

Building values and developing enterprise skills
The Bulwell Academy places tremendous emphasis on developing skills to enable students to be successful in their careers.  Enterprise skills enable students to have a ‘can do’ attitude.  This starts with developing their Six Rs.

These values nurture reasoning, reflection, resilience, resourcefulness, responsibility and respect within our students and establish the foundations and core values for our students and staff.  These attributes form the basis of our rewards system which recognises success and rewards positive behaviour.

As students progress through the academy and master these skills, the older students are then actively encouraged to develop their enterprise skills – their leadership, team working, creativity, innovation, risk management and problem solving skills.  All these are essential skills that every employer is looking for when employing staff to secure the success of their business.
