Job overview

Situated in the Nottinghamshire town of Mansfield, we boast a charming Victorian building with fantastic, expansive grounds. Classrooms are newly refurbished and we have a vibrant atmosphere where colleagues work as a team and seek the very best for their pupils. We opened in 2012 with the help of the Greenwood Academies Trust and have since been judged as “Good” by Ofsted.

Joining us, we will look to you to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum, mixing academic achievement and progress with the life skills and compassion that pupils need to thrive in the modern world. You will also work to continue to raise standards within the academy, identifying areas for development through evaluation and quality assurance, whilst ensuring that teaching and learning are of a high standard.

To be successful, you will:

  • have drive and passion to ensure significant improvements in the performance of all pupils;
  • be effective in your management style to encourage innovation and confidence amongst staff;
  • show strong organisational skills and relentlessness in instilling strategies to improve behaviour and raise standards;
  • have significant experience of managing others and the ability to be able to set clear goals for staff performance;
  • demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

In return, you will be well supported by a committed SLT and staff team, our pupils and the Trust. As an organisation, GAT is a well-established leader in school improvement and provides centralised services and support to enable staff to focus on teaching. Being part of the Trust, you will be supported by an Education Adviser and be eligible to access high quality training and development through the Greenwood Learning Alliance. Being part of GAT will also enable you to share specialist best practice and work collaboratively with colleagues in other academies.

Closing date: Noon on 8th May 2017.

Values and vision

Mansfield Primary has schemes available to help children with special needs, including communication and interaction for pupils on the autism spectrum, and cognition and learning for those with dyslexia. The academy has a range of interesting topics on its curriculum, from dinosaurs to Egyptians and space.

Children who attend Mansfield are in a supportive environment and are treated as equals. The work the pupils are given promotes independent learning in a stimulating way. Every child in the school is encouraged to take pride in their work. Teachers value students who show respect to others and have positive attitudes towards learning.

Ofsted report

“Pupils make good progress throughout the academy because the quality of teaching is good and learning interests and motivates them. Progress has quickened in the two years since the academy opened. The proportion of pupils who made better than expected progress by the end of Year 6 matched national averages in 2013 and inspection evidence suggests that current pupils are progressing at faster rates. Pupils feel safe and secure in this caring and supportive academy ”
