Job overview

PRINCIPAL

Leadership scale: 13-19

Full time position available from September 2018 (an earlier start date can be considered)

Part of the Aspirations Academies Trust, Ocean Academy Poole is a three form entry junior academy close to the centre of Poole which opened in state of the art facilities in September 2015. Ocean has gained an excellent reputation and is already oversubscribed. Having opened with just a Year 3 group in 2015, we anticipate that in September 2018 the Academy will be fully populated in all year groups.

With Ocean’s current Principal, Ellen Humphries, taking an Executive Principal role overseeing both Ocean Academy and Jewell Academy in Bournemouth, the Trust is seeking to appoint an outstanding and inspiring professional to the post of Principal.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a dynamic and talented leader, with a proven track record of expecting high achievement and managing excellent teaching and learning, to work with a great community of children, staff and parents. We are passionate about excellence in education, giving pupils the very best start in life with a firm belief that excellent teaching transforms lives. Our core belief is that for all students to have high aspirations, they must believe in themselves, be actively engaged in their learning and see the connection between what they learn today and who they want to become tomorrow.

As part of a newly designated NCTL Teaching School and National Support School Alliance, with Magna Academy, you would be joining us at a very exciting time and become part of a vibrant learning community that will offer you fantastic opportunities.

If you would like to work in an academy that is committed to providing children with an ‘outstanding’  learning experience, aims to continually develop and grow, and where teamwork and the professional development of all staff is important, we would love to hear from you.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to visit the academy informally and to meet the Executive Principal. To organise a visit please contact Jane Burry, office manager on 01202 606888 or jburry@ocean-aspirations.org

The application pack can be obtained from the Ocean Academy Poole website; www.aatocean.org

Closing date: Thursday 8th February 2018

Interviews are scheduled for Monday 19th February

At Ocean Academy, we provide an enriched and challenging ‘No Limits’ curriculum which is fun and engaging and ultimately keeps our children at the heart of everything we endeavour to achieve. The ‘No Limits’ curriculum framework is based around INTENT, IMPLEMENTATION and IMPACT alongside the expectation that the curriculum values ingenuity, creativity and risk-taking.

We believe in developing ‘the whole child’ and ensure high expectations for social, emotional, physical, moral, cultural and academic growth.  It is important to us that the children at Ocean Academy are resilient, determined and believe in their abilities to succeed whilst not being afraid to make a mistake or ‘have another go’. Our children are excited by learning and with a strong pupil voice, they feel safe and highly valued. Our staff are recognised as being a strong team who foster curiosity and creativity in an environment where everyone is  respected.

The facilities at Ocean Academy are modern and diverse and this allows us to promote learning now and for the 21st century. Ocean Academy has its ethos embedded in the Aspirations Academies core belief that for all children to have high aspirations they must believe in themselves, be actively engaged in their learning and see the connection between what they learn today and who they want to become tomorrow. We will strive to realise this for our children as they undertake their own individualised learning journey. More information about Aspirations Academies can be found at www.aspirationsacademies.org.

There are numerous opportunities for parents and carers to support the learning at Ocean Academy and we embrace the value of working closely with parents and the local community to uphold the collegiate approach that leads to successful, life-long learning and positive outcomes for our children. In a recent parent survey, 100% of parents who responded said that they would recommend Ocean Academy to other parents.
