The UTC Portsmouth will open in September 2017. It is being established with a clear remit; to specialise in electrical & mechanical engineering and advanced manufacturing, creating an environment of educational excellence for 14 – 19 year olds.
Engineers and individuals with STEM skills are in high demand by employers both locally and nationally. The UTC will look to inspire the talented engineers, technicians and researchers of tomorrow and support them to realise their potential. It aims to set the foundation for superior technical education and training for young people in the area. It has the backing of an unparalleled partnership between employers, including the Royal Navy, BAE Systems, QinetiQ, Airbus and dstl, together with Portsmouth City Council and the University of Portsmouth.
As founding Principal, you will be operating at the leading edge of practice-based education connected to the needs of employers. You will provide strategic leadership and shape the academic skills, technical expertise and enrichment programme that will characterise the UTC’s approach. You will lead and manage the preparation for opening and inspire a newly appointed leadership team and staff, to deliver provision of the highest quality.
This is a broad role requiring strategic vision alongside operational leadership skills of the highest quality. In addition, you will have exceptional interpersonal skills enabling effective working relationships with the broadest range of people and organisations - Trustees, sponsors, partners, stakeholders, other Principals and Headteachers, the local community and most importantly young people.
