Job overview

Outwood Academy City (OAC) is an incredible 11-16 school at the heart of its diverse and vibrant community in Sheffield. The school opened in 2011 with state-of-the-art facilities and joined Outwood Grange Academies Trust (OGAT) in 2014. The school has undergone a huge transformation since then for its 1000 students. The Trust are now seeking a new Principal with the vision, personality, and strategic thinking to lead one of the most highly regarded schools in the area. You may be seeking your first headship or be an experienced Principal/Headteacher looking for a new challenge, but regardless you must have the determination and ambition to make the academy your own and to lead it to an even brighter future.

The new Principal will lead a school that was graded as Good by Ofsted in 2019. They will also be working with an experienced Senior Leadership Team to lead a committed team of teaching and support staff who are striving to raise standards and transform the life chances of all the students. You will lead a relentless focus on the quality of teaching and learning and ensure every lesson delivers the highest standard of education. This will ultimately inspire the students to develop a passion for knowledge and a love of learning and give them access to the cultural experiences and opportunities that they deserve.

OAC was one of the first schools to be a part of OGAT. The Trust embraces the opportunity to ensure that all children, irrespective of their starting point, receive an excellent education. It relishes the opportunity to be part of the much-needed regeneration of the areas it works in. It is one of the largest MAT’s in the country and with that OAC can draw on a range of expertise. The Trust also works across geographical sub-regions with OAC part of the southern region which comprises of 10 secondary schools. The Principals from the schools work closely together, sharing best practice and supporting one another to ensure continuous and never ending improvement for the 10,500 students in the region. You will be empowered to lead OAC and your professional development will be a priority for the Trust with significant opportunities to engage in Trust wide and cross-phase projects.

This is an exciting time for the school and the new Principal. If you have a proven track record of school improvement as a senior leader in a secondary setting this role offers a fantastic opportunity to lead the future success of OAC.  The successful candidate must be motivated to ensure that the school’s mission, vision and values are realised and delivered consistently and effectively. They will ensure that the needs of the young people are met through high quality teaching and support that maximises all pupils’ potential and enables them to become enthusiastic and independent learners.

Above all, you will share the school and Trust’s commitment to putting Students First, raising standards and transforming lives.

Principal: Emily Rosaman

We are an Ofsted Good with Outstanding leadership 11-16 academy, with state-of-the-art facilities, based in the steel city of Sheffield.

We are delighted that in its latest report, Ofsted noted that ‘staff are very proud to be part of Outwood Academy City,’ and that our ‘staff appreciate the high-quality professional development opportunities they receive’ which we offer working closely with the wider Outwood Family.

Serving the bustling city of Sheffield, Outwood Academy City was constructed in 2011 with state-of-the-art facilities and joined Outwood Grange Academies Trust three years later. The school has undergone a huge transformation for its 1000 students, with an innovative curriculum and a personalised approach to learning enabling them to realise their vocational, practical, creative and academic abilities. This was recognised by Ofsted in February 2019, when the academy was judged ‘Good with Outstanding Leadership’. Inspectors noted that, “Leaders and teachers demonstrate high expectations for all pupils. They are determined that pupils achieve well in their subjects”.

We believe this transformation is due to our innovative, knowledge-rich curriculum, designed to personalise learning for every student, helping them to reach their potential.

We have won numerous awards as a school and are an IQM Centre of Excellence, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us. We are also proud to have been awarded the Gold Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

As we continue to improve, help to take us to the next level.
