Job overview

We are looking to appoint a new Principal for Harris Academy Peckham. If you are a highly motivated senior leader with the school improvement skills and experience needed to create an Outstanding academy where both staff and students thrive, then we want to hear for you.

This post would suit either, an experienced Vice Principal / Deputy Head looking for a supportive and collaborative environment to start your first Principalship, or an existing school leader who feels they have the leadership experience, qualities and drive to lead our academy to further success. For experienced heads thinking about future progression and overseeing more than one academy as an executive leader, then the Federation is in a unique position to offer access to a network of 20+ secondary academies across London, and the option to gain your National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership (NPQEL) through our Teaching School.

With the Federations support, mentoring and network of leaders to draw from, both aspiring Principals and experienced senior leaders have the opportunity to join a progressive, highly innovative multi academy trust where you will have the chance to work alongside some of the best school leaders in the country. Depending on resignation deadlines and availability of the successful applicant, we can offer some flexibility on start dates for either Easter or September 2020, this will be discussed at interview.

About Harris Academy Peckham

Whether you are an experienced Principal, or preparing for your first principalship, we can equip you with the experience, knowledge and training to achieve your next career goal. As part of Harris, you will have the opportunity to work within a close network of academies, and with principals from across the wider Federation. We have a highly experienced central team of  subject consultants, all committed to providing support and developing your skills as a leader. As part of a rewarding environment and highly supportive Federation, we can provide first time Principals with all the support needed in the form of individual mentoring from an experienced Harris Principal. For existing Headteachers, we offer unrivalled progression opportunities to Executive Principalship, and the option to support you through our National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership (NPQEL) programme. About Harris Academy Peckham

Harris Academy Peckham is a place where all flourish, all feel valued and where achievement is the key to success. We are thoroughly proud of all our successes to date and look forward to further contributing to the Harris Federation’s excellent track record.

We combine the traditional values of discipline, respect and good manners with contemporary best practice in teaching and technology. With these core values in place, we aim to send out into the world students that are happy and educated with the drive and ambition to be successful.

Our aim is to offer every student the opportunity to develop their potential to the maximum – in their learning, in preparation for the world of work and in their contribution to society.

We are very fortunate to have skilled and dedicated staff who want our students to enjoy their education. They are committed to helping every young person to reach their own personal goals.

We give our students as many opportunities as possible. No matter what their ability, we want them to learn and experience as much as they can during their time at the Academy. We offer a full, broad and balanced curriculum, ensuring students of all academic abilities enjoy learning. Each student is given the individual care and attention they need to thrive and make maximum progress.

Our two specialisms of Performing Arts and Business and Enterprise make the Academy an exciting and vibrant place. Students are given engaging opportunities to learn, participate in activities and experience the world of work within a friendly and safe environment.

Everyone at the Academy is given the chance to find out what they are good at. We have a large and unusual range of out-of-school clubs and activities. Students can, for example, learn a language, play the drums or become a cheerleader.

Working for Harris Federation

The Harris Federation is a not-for-profit charity. Led and run by teachers, we established our first school over 25 years ago.

There are now more than 40 happy and highly successful primary and secondary academies in our federation. All of these are in and around London. With each school that has joined us, the expectations we set ourselves have increased.

Every Harris academy so far inspected by Ofsted is rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’, with three quarters of our inspected secondary academies judged ‘outstanding’. Our primary schools are newer, but almost half are ‘outstanding’, with the rest ‘good’.
