St Martins School, Derby

The Shaw Education Trust Board of Trustees seeks applications from excellent candidates for this incredible opportunity.

We are keen to appoint an outstanding colleague to this exciting post. It is a wonderful opportunity for a proven leader to make a lasting impact on children’s life chances and to help guide them on their individual journeys to happy, successful and fulfilling futures. We will provide and encourage opportunities to be innovative, creative and ground-breaking. Through your exemplary leadership and aspirational ambition, St Martins School will support our pupils to achieve their very best. Your inspirational energies will harness a collective motivation which will trigger accelerated performance and awesome outcomes for our young people.

St Martins is a happy, safe and caring learning community where relationships are built on mutual respect and everyone is valued. Within our aspirational environment learning empowers everyone, through hard work and positive contribution, towards independence and a successful future.

St Martins joined the Shaw Education Trust in May 2020. Within the main school the age range of our students is 11 – 16 years (Year 7 – Year 11). There is also provision for 16-19 year olds in our Horizons 6th Form, which is based in Derby City Centre, and our Skills For Life Group which is based in school. We run a DFN Project SEARCH, a supported internship programme for post 19 students. The school is situated in Derby and we have excellent relationships with the Local Authority. There are 205 students currently on roll. St Martins is co-located on a shared site with Noel Baker, a mainstream secondary school, on the Derwent Campus. Within this exciting environment we have developed a creative and ambitious curriculum which is underpinned by the five key elements of the SHAPE-concept.

Our collaborative approach

Shaw Education Trust is a growing multi academy trust sponsored by Shaw Trust. We lead and manage academies in all phases, all sectors and in all communities.

We believe that every child should have the opportunity to be successful whatever their starting point. We pledge an unswerving commitment to improve, accelerate and enable ambitious life goals amongst all young people in our academies.

We don't believe in prescribing a curriculum; instead we support our academies to offer a curriculum that deepens knowledge, develops skills and fires the curiosity of students. We also expect each Academy to offer a range of support that addresses life after school, develops students' independence and helps them to prepare for university and the world of work.

Senior leaders at each Academy have the support of a core team and commissioned experts to provide high quality teacher training and development to staff to ensure they are continually developing their good practice.

We also encourage collaboration within and between our academies to create a community of professionals with a wide range of valuable experience and specialist knowledge to share.

Integrity and transparency underpin our accountability approach. We believe in earned autonomy for our academies, with the Trust Board providing the appropriate level of challenge and support - as well as oversight - to each. Local accountability is supported through a system of Academy Councils, with representatives of the whole school community in membership.
