Job overview

The Governors of St. Rose’s are seeking to appoint an inspirational, strategic Principal to lead this lively non-maintained Catholic nursery, Special School and Post-19 College. St Rose’s nursery (2 – 5 years) school (5 – 19 years) and St Martin’s Post-19 is based in the centre of Stroud, Gloucestershire and has transformed the lives of many children, young people and parents. St Rose’s offers Education, Therapy and Care for children and young people aged from 2 to 25 years.

St Rose’s has a strong Catholic ethos which is an integral part of its culture. The majority of St Rose’s students have physical and sensory disabilities, associated learning and communication difficulties and many have complex health needs. St. Rose’s provides education, therapy, and day and residential care. The trans-disciplinary team including therapists and nurses, works closely with parents and the local community to maximise the opportunities available to the children and young people.

St. Rose’s School was judged a ‘Good’ school in 2014. The nursery, school and Post-19 are looking for a new Principal to continue the wonderful character of St Rose’s and to develop new and innovative ways to improve the range of opportunities available to these unique children and young adults.

St. Roses’s is set in extensive grounds, and has recently undergone some renovations. It is part of the strategic future to develop this further to broaden the opportunities for the children and young people. Always striving to provide the very best services, St Roses’s, including St Martin’s, is currently working towards its Autism Accreditation from The National Autistic Society.

St. Martin’s Post-19 is based in two separate bungalows adjacent to the main buildings. These are purpose-built to cater for the young adults. St. Rose’s is looking for a strategic leader with proven experience in implementing change, to improve and extend the residential provision for the young adults.

St Martin’s provides specialist Further Education, life skills courses and residential services for young adults with physical disabilities, sensory, learning and communication difficulties and complex health needs. St Martin’s is very forward looking, and works closely with local FE Colleges and other local provisions to benefit the students.

The successful candidate will be visible, imaginative and a collaborative leader with a demonstrable track record of achievement and success in either Education or Care, or preferably both, within Special Educational Needs.

You will need to have excellent people management skills and demonstrate commercial sense. A genuine empathy for the children and young people at St Rose’s together with an understanding of upholding the Catholic ethos, and with the vision to carry St. Rose’s and St. Martin’s forward is essential. Being a practising Catholic is desirable but not essential.

We would urge candidates to visit St Rose’s prior to making an application, so that we can answer any questions you may have, and so that you can engage with the culture and vision for St. Rose’s and St. Martin’s.
