Located in the town of the same name in Renfrewshire, Scotland, Paisley Grammar School is a co-educational secondary school. The school was founded in 1576, and over the years became state-funded and co-educational, as well as undergoing several changes of location and ethos. The bulk of the school’s buildings today were built in a major renovation in 1970s, and have been continuously updated in line with modern standards. The most recent expansion of the school’s teaching facilities was completed in 2003. The school has around 1200 pupils on roll, making it larger than the average secondary school.

Values and Vision

Although named as a grammar school, Paisley Grammar is no longer academically selective and instead runs a curriculum designed to meet the needs to pupils from a wide range of different backgrounds and abilities. The school enshrines a number of values in its official ethos. These include fairness, honesty, trust, respect and learning, all intended to help students not only achieve to the best of their ability inside the classroom, but also to encourage their personal development and growth in adults.

Education Scotland Inspection

“The overall quality of the curriculum was good. At S1/S2, the curriculum was broad and balanced and provided an appropriate range of subjects. The school had taken a number of effective measures to ensure the curriculum met pupils’ needs. A number of departments ensured well-planned continuity in learning by building on helpful consultation with associated primary schools. The school planned to extend this practice across all departments.”
