Founded in 1989, The British School in Tokyo (BST) is a non-selective, not-for-profit school providing an outstanding education to a dynamic community of 1,000 students aged 3-18. The first school in Japan to achieve the prestigious COBIS Patron’s Accreditation, BST is a highly successful school recognised as a leader in British international education.

Following the appointment of Paul Tough as Principal and CEO of Kellett School, the BST Board of Trustees now seeks an exceptional new leader. BST is on the cusp of an ambitious new chapter in its development with the introduction of the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) in 2025 and the opening of a state-of-the-art new primary campus this August. This is an exciting opportunity to build on BST’s considerable existing strengths, and to shape the future of one of Asia’s leading British international schools.

The successful candidate will combine a track record of exceptional senior leadership experience with the cultural sensitivity to lead a diverse international community through an important period of growth and change. An outstanding educationalist, the next Principal will be an excellent communicator with a clear vision for the future of BST, and the relationship-building skills to thrive in a multi-stakeholder environment where working collaboratively across cultures is critical to success. Experience of the IB is advantageous and a genuine resonance with BST’s mission and values is essential.
