Job overview

ABOUT CAMPHILL

Camphill Wakefield is a specialist college providing education and care for young adults with moderate to severe learning disabilities. Our focus is on the development of each student’s self-determination and supports the emergence of their personal agency. This allows each student to have the fullest involvement in their life choices after college.

Our broad curriculum is grounded in the four areas of Preparing for Adulthood, giving our students the chance to apply skills and knowledge in a range of exciting, relevant, age-appropriate learning opportunities.

Our approach is directly informed by our values and mission statement which reflect the founding principles of the Camphill movement. (Our history, values and mission statement can be downloaded here).

OUR SETTING

Camphill Wakefield is a college without classrooms in an outstanding environment, where learning takes place through land-based, craft and life skills programmes. We are in the centre of West and South Yorkshire, sharing the best of both town and country locations.

Our campus covers 38 acres and provides real work experience, where students with varying degrees of ability gain valuable practical skills, developing their own agency through the individual communication and employability skills which underpin all our activities. In order to gain greater independence, the majority of students take part in an individually tailored work experience programme.

We offer a mix of term time day and residential placements. In addition, we have an extended 52 week option and provide respite opportunities for local learners.

OUR NEW PRINCIPAL

As the successful candidate, you will not only hold the necessary formal qualifications and experience, you will also embrace our ethos and champion the culture of Camphill.

You will be instrumental in delivering on our long term strategy and upholding the college’s reputation as an outstanding centre for education within West and South Yorkshire.

Our new Principal will already have a background in delivering innovative curricula in a specialist educational arena, with an impressive understanding of SEND students. You will be committed to the wellbeing and development of Camphill’s students and staff, to upholding our values and to representing the college by fostering relationships with external organisations.

The role is as demanding as it is rewarding, requiring a multi-disciplined individual with excellent management and communications skills. You will possess the ability to co-ordinate and inspire colleagues, reacting quickly to situations that inevitably arise at a college like Camphill. You will be flexible and prepared to work outside normal office hours and to remain good humoured when under pressure.

We are looking to appoint a person to take over the helm and steer Camphill through its future challenges, ensuring the continuation of our values and delivering on our mission statement.

Your qualities will include: energy, enthusiasm, approachability, confidence, leadership, compassion and ability to engage with people on a very human level.
