Job overview

An amazing opportunity to lead a very special academy.

At the heart of Academy Transformation Trust, Phoenix Academy in Walsall gives primary age pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs the best possible start in life. We’re here to help them develop enquiring minds, become independent, love learning and carve their niche in a world they find difficult and confusing.

You really shine when you’re supporting children who need it most – and you’ll have plenty of scope to transform lives and outcomes here. Our Thematic Curriculum introduces a stimulating new topic every term to keep pupils engaged, and we will look to you to deliver further innovations that make learning even more exciting. At the same time, you will ensure that every child can thrive in safety as you set high standards of discipline and conduct, actively engage pupils with SEMH needs – and go the extra mile to make school something to be enjoyed not endured.

Naturally, you’ll be adept at getting the most from your team too, and you’ll be comfortable delegating responsibility, which will leave you time for hands-on teaching. It goes without saying that you should be an experienced and inspirational school leader with an impressive record of improving outcomes in a special school setting, particularly in SEMH. Your career will have spanned foundation stage and key stage 1 and 2, giving you deep understanding of the full spectrum of primary education coupled with experience of working with pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.

Equally importantly, you should be well versed in child protection and safeguarding legislation, passionate about best practice – and determined to make all the difference every day. Prove you have what it takes, and your career could take you anywhere within the Trust’s network of 22 expanding academies.

Closing date: Midnight on Sunday 17th November 2019.

Academy Transformation Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. All offers of employment will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check, 2 satisfactory references and any other necessary checks.
