Job overview

The Board of Directors of The Holy Spirit Catholic Multi Academy Company is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, inspirational practising Catholic Principal to St Thomas More Catholic School and Sixth-Form College. St Thomas More is a popular and thriving Catholic Secondary School and Sixth-Form College, in Nuneaton with 980 pupils on roll, including Years 12 and 13.

We are looking for an inspirational Principal who can lead the school on the journey towards excellence. Whilst the school was recently graded ‘Good’ by OFSTED in January 2018, and ‘Outstanding’ during a Section 48 inspection in November 2017, we are seeking a Principal who will have a relentless focus on school improvement to ensure St. Thomas More offers an outstanding education to every child.

St Thomas More is part of The Holy Spirit Catholic MAC which was formed in March 2015. Comprising four primaries and one secondary school, the MAC is based in North Warwickshire with a combined pupil population of 2146. In January 2018 the MAC appointed a Senior Executive Principal (SEP), Sinead Smith, to oversee all aspects of school and MAC provision and all Principals within the MAC report directly to Sinead, as well as the Board of Directors.

We are looking for a Principal who:

  • Is a practising Catholic who has a strong Catholic Faith, who will nurture and further develop our Catholic ethos and community spirit
  • Will inspire and motivate our staff and children while making them feel valued and supported
  • Has the drive and vision to promote and inspire the highest standards of teaching and learning
  • Can demonstrate good interpersonal and organisational skills working as part of our school team, with colleagues, parents, governors, parish and the wider community
  • Is an effective communicator who leads by example

We can offer:

  • Committed, well-behaved, enthusiastic students with a thirst for high quality learning
  • A Board of Directors with a clear strategic vision and a commitment to ensuring excellence in every MAC school
  • The support and challenge of a Senior Executive Principal
  • Opportunities to work within a network of Principals who firmly commit to continually improving provision for every child in the MAC, including those beyond their own school
  • Opportunities to develop professionally to enable you to contribute to effective collaborations within the MAC and beyond

Visits to the school are welcomed. Please contact Katy Dunnion – Chief Operating Officer on 02476 383807 or katy.dunnion@holyspiritmac.co.uk to arrange a visit. All application forms are to be returned to Katy Dunnion for the attention of Jim Foley – Chair of the Board of Directors via email or send by post to Katy Dunnion, Our Lady & St Joseph Catholic Academy, Riversely Park, Coton Road, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, CV11 5TY.

The Holy Spirit Catholic MAC is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We follow safer recruitment practice and appointments are made subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check. The successful candidate must also sign the CES contract of employment.

Values and vision

Christian values are emphasised throughout the school’s curriculum. St Thomas More aims to provide every student with an outstanding education so they can succeed in later life. Teachers seek to provide diverse learning opportunities in a Catholic context.

The school aims to foster a feeling of community, encouraging all pupils to treat each other with care and respect, and to become mature, responsible members of society. These ideals are often reflected in the activities the students take part in, such as collecting food for the homeless.

Ofsted report
