Job Details

As a member of the Support for Pupils Team, the Principal Teacher Guidance (Pt1) is directly responsible to the Depute Head in charge of Support for Pupils.  Overall Guidance Team duties include:

participation in the establishment, monitoring and evaluation of the aims and priorities of Guidance within the school

input to management and policy decisions through regular discussions with the Principal Teacher Guidance (Pt3) and through the Support for Pupils Departmental meetings with the Depute Head

implementation of whole school policies

contribution to the Catholic ethos of the school

liaison and co-operation with other school staff, other specialist agencies and staff in other establishments as appropriate

contribution to the audit, development and implementation of the Support for Pupils Improvement Plan in accordance with the School Improvement Plan

contribution to the development of the school’s Personal and Social Education programmes and the teaching of PSE and Personal Support classes

work within the terms of the Children’s Act (Scotland) and implementation of appropriate Fife Council policies/guidelines such as Child Protection, Support for Learning, Anti-Bullying, Equal Opportunities, Education/Industry and other as they arise

General Responsibility

to develop, promote and monitor the effectiveness of Guidance/Whole School strategies and policies

to liaise effectively with parents, members of staff and external agencies

to contribute to, promote and implement whole school policies

to develop, implement and evaluate the Support for Pupils Improvement Plan

to contribute to the development of the school’s PSE and Personal Support programme and the teaching of PSE and Personal Support classes

to implement Fife Council Policy in relation to the Care and Welfare of children

Case Load Responsibility

to be responsible for a group of pupils S1-6, offering personal, curricular and vocational support and individual counselling as appropriate

to respond effectively to self-referrals by pupils and referrals by parents, members of staff and external agencies

to keep a record of interventions and make referrals to DHTs where appropriate

to track the performance of all case load pupils by contributing proactively to the attainment agenda

to maintain up-to-date PPRs, ISPs and CSPs

to prepare references and reports as required for case conferences, school transfers, re-admission meetings and other meetings, as appropriate

to attend and/or chair case conference and review meetings as required

to involve parents, as appropriate, in matters relating to pupil welfare

Qualification, Registration and Skill Requirements

You are required to have high levels of interpersonal skills and abilities which will enable you to work as a member of the senior leadership team to lead and manage school improvement, both at strategic and operational levels, to ensure continuous improvement.

You are required to demonstrate a commitment to your own professional learning as a practitioner through career-long professional learning activity and to be able to show how this has impacted on your practice.

Before confirming your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.

You are required to be fully registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) and to model all behaviour expected of a teacher in Scotland in line with the relevant Professional Standards.

The relevant legislation on the management of denominational schools in Scotland states: "A teacher appointed to any post on the staff of any such school by the education authority. . . shall be required to be approved as regards religious belief and character by representatives of the church or denominational body in whose interest the school has been conducted."
