Job overview
Students
The primary student is an adult learner. Having grown up in Las Vegas and obtained a 6 in IB Spanish 17 years ago, his objective is to become completely fluent in Mexican-Spanish, encompassing all aspects of the language: speaking, reading, and writing. His commitment to this goal is high, and he requires formal, structured instruction with clear daily and weekly goals. This goal is personally motivated and demands a tailored approach that respects his adult learning style while being intensive enough to achieve fluency within a year. His learning style leans towards a structured and organized approach, necessitating a tutor who can provide formal instruction with a high level of organization and clear objectives.
In addition to the adult, his two primary-aged daughters will require one hour of daily instruction. These young learners are at the foundational stage of language acquisition. Their instruction should be highly engaging, interactive, and appropriate for their developmental stages.
Role of the Tutor
The Tutor’s primary responsibility is to create and implement a comprehensive, structured Spanish language program specifically tailored to the adult’s goal of achieving fluency in Mexican-Spanish. This program must be methodically organized, offering a blend of formal instruction, practical applications, and regular assessments. The Tutor should be adept at utilizing a variety of teaching methodologies, including but not limited to, the use of textbooks, multimedia resources, and immersive conversational practice, to cater to an adult learner's needs.
For the children, the Tutor must design an engaging and interactive Spanish learning experience that is appropriate for their age and cognitive level. This may involve creative teaching techniques such as storytelling, games, and other interactive activities that make learning Spanish enjoyable and effective for young learners. The Tutor should be skilled at balancing the varying needs of the adult and child learners, ensuring that each lesson is productive and beneficial for their respective language learning journeys.
Furthermore, the Tutor is expected to provide a high level of organization in the planning and execution of the lessons. This includes setting daily and weekly goals, tracking progress, and adjusting the teaching plan as necessary to ensure the consistent advancement towards fluency. The Tutor should also be able to integrate cultural elements of Mexico and Colombia into the curriculum, thereby enriching the adult’s language learning experience with a deeper understanding of the cultures associated with the language.
As the role may transition between in-person and online instruction, the Tutor should be prepared for this change and capable of maintaining the continuity and effectiveness of the teaching regardless of the format. When teaching in person, the Tutor should be willing to relocate to Malta and accompany the adult on his travels, providing a consistent and immersive learning environment.
In summary, the Tutor’s role is multifaceted, requiring a high degree of professionalism, adaptability, and creativity. The Tutor must be capable of developing and implementing a dynamic and effective language program for both an adult and children, ensuring that each student’s learning needs and goals are met with a tailored and comprehensive approach.
Hours and Holidays
The Tutor will work an average of 8 hours a day 5.5 days a week, to be free to offer online instruction for 1-2 hours a day for the adult and 1 hour for the children at any time during that 8-hour window, with the flexibility to adapt to the father’s and his daughters’ schedules. Specific working hours and holidays will be mutually agreed upon with the Client.
Accommodation and Travel
If the tutoring services are provided in person, the Client will provide accommodation. During travel, the family will ensure the Tutor has private accommodation. Rent and utilities for accommodation will be covered by the Client except for the Tutor’s personal phone bill.
Details regarding the accommodation will be discussed and agreed upon prior to the commencement of the role.
Miscellaneous
The successful candidates will be able to offer more than the minimum requirements of this position and must have been raised in a socially appropriate background. They will not only be excellent practitioners, but also good role models: educated and polished, with excellent manners and personal values.
The Tutors must be a fit, healthy and a non-smoker – active and energetic with a love for the outdoors; the kind of person who always makes the most of their environment to enhance teaching and learning opportunities.
