Job overview

Student

The young lady is the third of six siblings of a German family. She is a delightful 17-year-old, who boasts many positive attributes, both academically and in other personal pursuits. She is exceedingly clever and does well across the subject spectrum at school. She shows insightful intuition, acute wit, and a sharp sense of humour, which represent the ideal assets to her loquacious and entertaining attitude. A very polite and confident individual, she is highly engaging and takes a leading role in debates, while actively listening to her interlocutors to really value their contribution to the conversation.

The student is an equestrian enthusiast, and an incredibly talented one at that. She is highly accomplished in equestrian events and as a dressage rider. Due to her agonistic commitments and the COVID-19 pandemic, she attended her first year of a high school online (Grade 9, US curriculum). However, following the family’s relocation to Vienna and a subsequent reduction of her equestrian engagements, for the following two school years (Grades 10 - 11) she returned to the IB system, with which she had already acquired familiarity during the Middle Years Programme.

From an academic point of view, the student shows clarity of reasoning and well developed critical and analytical skills. Despite her preference for task-based and problem-based perspectives, she is equally at ease when it comes to understanding and applying more theoretical approaches. The young lady favours teachers who encourage in-depth topic discussion and deliver content through straightforward instructions. She responds effectively to structured activities, for example following methodical steps to complete mathematical problems, or adhering to models for text analysis and essay writing.

Although she does not compete as often as she used to, she still regularly spends time at the stables riding, and occasionally training her younger sister. Beyond her studies, the young lady aspires to own her own business one day, she is interested in the financial and economic aspects of business, and she is likely to pursue a university degree in this field.

The student hails from a loving and supportive family who value education and educational experiences, and who encourage her to explore all the infinite possibilities that learning can lead to.

Role of the Tutor

The Tutor will be joining a family who is well acquainted with TI Tutors and their respective teaching ethics. Moreover, the student has already experienced the benefit of additional support following time-demanding competitions and equestrian training. The Tutor will enhance subject material and teaching strategies to ensure that the student continues to aim high and reach her full potential.

The Tutor will need to be highly flexible, and their role will extend beyond the classroom, encompassing the role of a positive, well-mannered role model and mentor, in addition to offering inspiring teaching and endless learning opportunities, regardless of location, timing or subject.

In fact, the Tutor will be a strong ambassador for the IB Diploma programme and 21st century learning, promoting independent, driven individuals who are in control of their learning and goals. Such an education, under the most effective management, should provide a healthy balance of interactive, mediarich educational opportunities, along with strong academic foundations and a student-centred dynamic.

A proven track record and experience of teaching the IB syllabus in the required subjects would be extremely beneficial to the role. The Tutor will respect the core values of the programme, providing imaginative opportunities for innovation, achievement, collaboration, and unrivalled flexibility.

Hours and Holidays, Accommodation and Travel

The Tutor will be required to work approximately 35 contact hours per week, with preparation time in addition. The timetable will be fully malleable and flexible around the student's equestrian pursuits. Teaching will follow remote learning courses, with the valuable addition of the Tutor’s tailor-made material to extend the online classroom.

The Tutor is entitled to an average of two consecutive days off per week, which inevitably, will not always fall on weekends, depending on the young lady's commitments as a dressage rider. The Client will strive to provide up to two weeks’ notice of any changes to non-school days.

The Client will provide private, furnished accommodation in Vienna.

A car will be provided if needed for reasonable local use but with the excellent Vienna public transport it is not likely to be needed much. The Client will be responsible for all accommodation bills, except for the Tutor’s personal phone bill.

Miscellaneous

In addition to leading a healthy lifestyle and as a non-smoker, it would be highly advantageous for the Tutor to share an equestrian hobby or affiliation to another similar sporting pastime, or at least a deep appreciation of the outdoors.
