Based in our office at King’s Hedges School, The Red Hen Project Manager will provide leadership of the project and ensure that the Red Hen charity is effective in achieving its aim and objectives.   This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to play a pivotal role in taking the project forward through a newly awarded 4 year Big Lottery Reaching Communities grant.  

The successful candidate will work closely with two family workers and enjoy the support of a dedicated group of trustees. 

Responsible to:  The Executive Committee of the Red Hen 

Salary:  SO1 point 29-31, £25,951 - £27,668 (pro rata £8,958 - £9,551) £13.19 - £14.06 per hour,  Hours per week:  15 term time plus 1 week in the school holidays

King's Hedges Primary School is a mixed community school in Cambridge with some 390 pupils aged 4-11. It is part of the King's Hedges Educational Federation, with an attached nursery school, and serves a large residential area in north Cambridge. The primary school has benefited from recent refurbishment, increasing its capacity from two- to three-form entry. 

King's Hedges Primary School has also reorganised its classes, so that pupils in each year group are taught in one large class by two teachers and a number of teaching assistants.

Values and vision

King's Hedges Primary School puts much emphasis on pupil voice. Its charter, which sets out the basic rules to be followed, was written by pupils for pupils. Among other things, it urges them “to ensure expectations are met, to soar to the highest standards on every occasion” and to present themselves and their work with pride.   

Values such as tolerance and respect are fundamental to the life of the school, and are promoted in assemblies and in PSHE lessons. The school provides pupils with direct experience of other ways of life in modern Britain, and has links with Ghana, France and Poland to expand pupils’ awareness of other cultures and beliefs.

“Pupils’ behaviour is outstanding, and there are frequent examples of exemplary attitudes to learning in the older classes. Pupils feel exceptionally safe in school. The curriculum provides pupils with rich and varied experiences. These contribute greatly to their excellent spiritual, moral, social and cultural development."
