Job overview
Senior School Leidschenveen (SSL) is looking for a 0.6 FTE Psychology Lead teacher from August 2024. A full-time post is possible if the successful candidate is able to offer a second subject (AEN, EAL, KS3/GCSE History, sports Psychology, IBDP/CP core). Please indicate this clearly in your application if you wish to be considered for a full-time post.
This is a unique opportunity; SSL benefits from the vision, security, systems and excellent reputation of an established school whilst offering an exciting opportunity to have a pioneering impact on the lives of our students.
The School:
The BSN focuses on organic growth and has prided itself for always having a place for any student wanting a British curriculum education since 1931. To meet increasing demand and ensure quality of the teaching provision, the BSN has expanded its Junior School Leidschenveen (JSL) campus to include a senior school. This development is testament to the BSN’s ambition to create a learning continuum for ages 3-18 with purpose-built design. SSL is the newest campus of The British School in The Netherlands, located in The Hague. It is currently in its sixth year of existence with 350 students, aged 11-17 (Years 7 to 12). SSL will continue to grow over the next year until it reaches capacity as an 11-18 (Years 7-13) school.
The Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have strong curriculum knowledge and a successful track record in teaching Psychology at post-16 level, preferably within the IBDP framework. A willingness to fully subscribe to our school mission, Academic Excellence, Breadth of Experience and Character & Community (ABC) is fundamental to our appointment to this post. As the Lead Teacher of Psychology, you will be an excellent classroom practitioner and also be able to design and implement outstanding curriculums in the subject area.
The Role:
Psychology forms part of our IBDP offer and is a relatively new course within SSL. You will be expected to collaborate with the other Psychology teacher, as well as other subject leads within the school, and you will have the opportunity to engage with Psychology teachers at our sister school in Voorschoten.
Life in The Netherlands:
The Netherlands is one of the most welcoming of all EU member countries to professionals working abroad and is a very pleasant country in which to live and work. The Netherlands regularly tops surveys on child wellbeing.
The working language of The BSN is English. The Dutch are excellent linguists and English is widely spoken by around 70% of the population.
Transport services and connections are excellent - our campuses are located in The Hague, just 30 or so minutes from Amsterdam Schiphol airport, or in the other direction, from the Hoek of Holland ferry terminal. Public transport is fast, reliable and generally good value for money, but many choose the truly Dutch option of cycling, making good use of the highly developed network of cycle paths.
