About this position

As the Public Relations, Event, and Communication Officer, you will be accountable for the strategy and execution of all communication activities at a whole school level. You will play a pivotal role in shaping this new position and the transition of communication within the school.

You will be responsible for smooth processes, a clear set up for responsibilities and roles regarding internal and external communication and for content that aligns with the school's norms, values, and identity. You will ensure not only the right tone of voice but also compliance with the brand style rules of the school in an international context.

Your Role

As the Public Relations, Event, and Communication Officer, you will be the guiding force for the communication team of staff members that are responsible for day-to-day communication within the school. This team, consisting of dedicated individuals, contributes significantly to the daily communication efforts.

Your role will consist of the responsibility for:

1.     The Communication Strategy and plans for both internal and external communication and

2.     Coordination of the execution of the Communication Plan, for both external and internal communication

External communication: clear set up, plan and policy for external communication channels, products and allocation of responsibilities, coordination and monitoring of website ESH set-up and updates, school-wide communication to parents and other formal communication products, coordination implementation PR; and

Internal communication: clear set up and policy for internal communication channels, allocation of responsibilities regarding intranet, coordination and monitoring frequent updates, publishing of school broad information through internal communication channels.

3.     In addition, you will assist in content creation and be involved in design both in written and visual form.

You will report directly to the Senior Management Team, comprising of the Director, both Heads of School’s for Primary and Secondary and the Head of Operations, playing a pivotal role in the continuous development of Communications within the ESH. Your contributions will shape the communication landscape, fostering a cohesive and effective approach to communication within the European School The Hague.

The European School The Hague is a vibrant international community with over 1500 students and 400 staff members, ranging from the youngest pupils in Primary to the young adults in year 7 in Secondary. The school offers education in various languages with great respect for cultural diversity. Students are primarily from European Institutions/Organisations employers based in The Hague. The school is spread across two locations in The Hague.

What you bring in:

·      Background and experience in the broad field of external and internal communication

·      Innate ability to inspire and mobilize individuals through charismatic and informal leadership, effectively driving projects forward and fostering enthusiasm within teams

·      Proficient in spoken and written professional English, with an understanding of the Dutch language

·      Knowledge of Adobe CC (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), and experience with working and managing in Microsoft SharePoint and Teams is a plus

·      Experience in multimedia creation, such as videos and photography projects, and event organisation

·      Affinity with education and experience with the dynamics of a public organisation

·      Experience in working in a a diverse team and ability to navigate cultural differences

What we offer:

·      An appointment of 0,8 fte in accordance with the Dutch secondary education collective labor agreement

·      Pay scale will be in accordance with the secondary education collective labor agreement, scale 8 maximum €4055,- gross per month

·      Holiday allowance of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.33% of the gross annual salary

About Europese School Den Haag Rijnlands Lyceum Secondary School

The European School The Hague (ESH) is part of Rijnlands Lyceum Foundation (in Dutch: Stichting het Rijnlands Lyceum). Rijnlands Lyceum Foundation is an ambitious foundation that offers both primary and secondary education and national and international education. The 1100 staff members at eight schools provide innovative quality education to more than 7000 students with a focus on global citizenship.

The ESH is a unique school. We were established in 2012 to educate the children of employees of European Union institutions. We provide a multilingual and multicultural education to Early Years, Primary and Secondary school children culminating in the European Baccalaureate. We are an officially Accredited European School, partly administered and financed by the Dutch national education system, and accredited by the Board of Governors of the European Schools since December 2012. We are part of the Rijnlands Lyceum Foundation.

ESH Primary is conveniently situated in between the city centre and the beach of Scheveningen. ESH Secondary is located 4,5 km from ESH Primary and 10 minutes by bike from Central Station.

Curriculum

ESH uses the European Schools curriculum. The curriculum incorporates the established 8 Key Competences. Learning is planned in a cross-curriculum manner, linking concepts and skills across subject areas. We also strive to include our core values in our teaching.Early Years involves a cycle of 2 – 2.5 years and the Primary cycle, 5 years. Working at ESH

The ESH has favourable Dutch social and working conditions, and offers a fantastic working environment, located in the international zone of The Hague  (in Dutch: Den Haag). The Hague is a cosmopolitan city with a large expat population and as such offers excellent housing, health and transport facilities.  The ESH maintains a high standard of quality education and therefore we request applicants to provide details of three referees, of which one must be the most recent employer, or the one prior to the current employer. Requirements for teaching positions:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Hons), or equivalent
  • Fully qualified teacher status for secondary education in the country the qualification is obtained, and in the subject applied for (UK/Ireland/Scotland: you have been awarded QTS and have successfully completed - or are exempt from - the statutory induction period)
  • Successful teaching experience
  • Knowledge of international curricula
  • Experience teaching pupils in their second language
  • Fluent in the language in which you teach
  • Knowledge of two or more European Union languages preferred
  • Experience working collaboratively in an international environment
