Solihull Academy is an AP free school, opened in April 2018, catering to 110+ Year 9 -11 pupils that ensures all pupils across the Local Authority have access to a high-quality alternative educational provision.

Due to the growth of the Academy, expansion of age range to include Years 7 and 8 and a rapid growth in student numbers, we are seeking to recruit an effective, creative and passionate Pastoral and Progress Manager to help drive forward progress and have a real impact for our students. The successful candidate will have excellent emotional literacy and strong behaviour management skills and be able to motivate students through inspirational modelling, leadership and intervention. The successful applicants will either join a year group or start a group from scratch and must be able to lead a pastoral team with support from the Assistant Principal. This post-holder will have responsibility for pastoral and progress management and also teach a timetable of core lessons.

You will be able to demonstrate:

• Commitment to Inclusion and Alternative Provision as a game changer

• Passion for working with the most vulnerable and high-tariff pupils

• Significant experience of supporting pupils

• Resilience, focus  and adaptability

• Ability to Teach English (or another core subject)

The Academy Leadership team is determined to give our students the best opportunities possible to become successful, responsible citizens with the best life chances. This is a critical appointment for the School, and is an exciting opportunity for you to work in an aspirational, therapeutic and innovative environment with students who need you.

"Open a school", they said...so we did...

"It’ll be great", they said...And it was, but also the toughest thing professionally any of us have done.

"So many pupils need something different", they said... and they were correct... our students did and do need something different.

Since April 18 we have been on a journey to use the idea of “Alternative” in Alternative Provision as a driver to create a new school for the most vulnerable pupils in the local authority, and the impact and results tell us we are making a real difference.  Prior to our opening our local authority permanently excluded more secondary students than 90% of the rest of the country despite being the wealthiest borough in the West Midlands. So, in a unique partnership between the Local Authority, mainstream school and ourselves, we built a school, provision and curriculum to combat that and ensure the best possible outcomes for highest tariff students in the local authority.  We have developed our school based on 4 specific targets:

-Prevent PEX

-Fewer FTE

-Beat Baseline and/or KS2 targets

-No NEETS

Every decision we make and every action we take is based on these four targets and absolutely child-focused and, from that simple premise, we have created our Academy.  If you are looking for a new challenge and have unconditional positive regard, emotional resilience and utter belief that every child deserves a better future, then maybe we  and, more importantly, our students need you as part of TeamSA.

Solihull Alternative Provision Multi Academy Trust:  Let's go to work!
