Job overview

St Gregory’s Catholic High School is offering the right candidate a wonderful opportunity to join our highly effective, family orientated pastoral support team.

You will be someone who has absolute commitment to the emotional wellbeing of young people, listens to them and is able to offer them advice and guidance.

You will be a team player who is ambitious for every child and seeks to provide them with solutions to overcome difficulties and anxieties so that they are able to achieve their true potential.

This is a new role in school that will enhance the strong provision already provided by the pastoral team in the personal development of our pupils.  Over time the role will grow, enabling the post holder to develop the role and play a key part in the growth of this part of the school.

The successful candidate will predominantly support pupils with emotional wellbeing and mental health issues through one to one and small group support.  This includes supporting pupils who await further referral to external practitioners such as CAHMS.

This new role will also include the strategic leadership and co-ordination of life skills workshops (for example workshops on being organised for school, managing exam stress, developing confidence, character and resilience, developing healthy relationships) across the whole school that support pupils and staff based on identified needs.

You will also support parents and carers through small workshops and through guidance to equip them with the knowledge to understand and support their children with emotional wellbeing issues.

The role will also provide guidance to young people to live a healthy lifestyle, both mentally and physically, through work with other departments across the school and beyond.

The post holder will not necessarily deliver workshops themselves but they will identify workshop themes, organise the events and source the appropriate personnel to deliver the workshops from internal staff and via external companies and practitioners.

Specific aspects of the role and responsibilities can be discussed further with the head teacher and a meeting with the head teacher / deputy head teacher and a tour of the school (Covid safety dependent) is very welcome to interested candidates.

Given the new nature of this role, we remain open minded to further discussion on the role dependent of the experience and ideas of candidates.

St. Gregory’s Catholic High School is one of the highest performing schools in Warrington and the Liverpool Archdiocese for pupil progress measures. The school is well oversubscribed with a waiting list for pupil admissions.

In our January 2020 Ofsted report, Ofsted graded the school as ‘Good’ in every area under the new framework and the school has been graded as ‘Outstanding’ in the Section 48 Inspection of Catholic Life provision.

The opening paragraph from the Ofsted report reads: “Pupils at St Gregory’s are confident and welcoming to visitors, they like each other”. There is a strong sense of community across the school which reflects the school vision. One pupil said “we are cared about as individuals, but because everyone cares, that makes us all one”

If you are ambitious and ready for a new exciting challenge, a challenge that you can help grow in our school, and a challenge that helps young people to be the best version of themselves, then this post could be for you.

Contract: Permanent, Term Time plus 2 weeks (although this can be negotiated)

Values and vision

The mission statement of St Gregory’s reads: “This is our God, the servant King. He calls us now to follow him.” The school’s prayer is: “Inspire us to build a community based on love and respect. May we be empowered to challenge injustice every day. Help us to value and support each other to create a positive Learning environment where all may serve. Amen.”

The staff, parents, governors and students of St. Gregory’s Catholic High School aim to work in partnership to create a vibrant community in which all are valued. At the core of school life is a belief that there is no better inspiration than the example and teaching of Jesus Christ.

The school community seeks to set an example of service, inspired by Jesus, and in doing so fulfil the aspirations that it has for each of its pupils, and to foster their spiritual, academic and personal development.

Ofsted

“Across the school there are examples of good and sometimes outstanding teaching. Many students are eager to learn and have aspirations to excel in their studies and in the contribution they make to school life.”

“The school represents a safe, caring and responsive community. Governance is strong and effective."
