The Island Private School of Limassol in Cyprus opened for the first 500 students in September 2022, and is now looking for competent, experienced and, above all, passionate Pre-Primary Homeroom Teacher to join the team.

Cyprus regulations require applicants to have a university degree in Education Pedagogic recognised by KY.S.A.T.S. (The Cyprus Council of Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications) and the ability to pass a background check.    

The Position: Homeroom Teacher, Pre-Primary Years Program

The role of teachers in PYP is to provide learners with authentic learning engagements, differentiated learning experiences in a socially, emotionally, and physically safe environment. Teachers of the Island Private School are considered learning designers so that students are at the centre of a learning journey. 


General responsibilities:

  • Create a positive, stimulating, academic, and risk-free environment in which students can thrive educationally and socially;
  • Maintain constant awareness of the needs of any children to whom English is another language;
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere recognizing and encouraging the attributes of students and colleagues;
  • Create a learning environment that recognizes the individual learning potential and needs of all students;
  • Ensure that all students are aware of and follow behavioral agreements. See challenges as opportunities to grow and to create meaning in any learning context;
  • Ensure that classrooms, furnishings, resources, and equipment are respected and valued by students;
  • Create and maintains a safe and positive working environment and relationship with the Co-teacher. Makes sure the Co-teacher is involved, challenged, and valued, and is given suitable responsibility;
  • Design, prepare and deliver high quality lessons to suit the individual needs of all students in line with the PYP;
  • Plan Units of Inquiry and lessons by following IB curriculum framework collaboratively with the PYP Coordinator, Specialist teachers, and Learning Support team;
  • Asses and monitors student progress and provide targets so that all learners can see success and improve;
  • Maintain a positive approach to aspects of behavior management.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pre–primary education is a must. Additional degrees would be considered an advantage.
  • Professional Educator Diploma or other teacher qualification if available (e.g. QTS, PGCE).
  • Fluency in English level C1 at least and international mindedness.
  • Familiar with technology use in teaching and learning. 
  • Compassionate and attentive to students; knows how children learn and can support their learning.
  • Remember how to be curious and awed by the world around.
  • Can create and improvise and has a desire to co-create a child-centred curriculum and bring it to life.
  • Has a mild allergy to sitting at the desk and strictly following the prescribed curriculum.

Position Working Days/hours: 

Monday to Friday, 8:00-16:00
