Job overview

  • Are you an excellent teacher of young people with considerable learning needs across the SLD sector or ASC sector with a track record of achieving high levels of pupil progress?
  • Are you talented in developing learning pathways to deliver both the academic and social / emotional curriculum for pupils with special educational needs?
  • Are you looking for the next step in your career?

If you answer with an enthusiastic ‘YES’ to all of the above then we would like to work with you in the next stage of our development.

Kingsweston School is a large and diverse specialist provision in the north-west of Bristol operating from four sites and catering for pupils with ASC and complex and severe learning difficulties.

Our school operates in 3 strands. The SLD strand (severe learning difficulties) and the ASC strand (autism spectrum condition).  We also have a small, but significant provision for young people who need a fully bespoke educational package, called The KEEP

We have created 2 new Leadership posts to support the ongoing development of specialist pedagogy and curriculum development. Both posts are permanent and full time and the pay range for these post is Leadership Scale; L4 to L8.

The 2 post holders will each have a class teaching responsibility for around .6 of the week and when not teaching, you will be sharing your skills and expertise to enhance pedagogy and drive curriculum change.

  • One Lead will be based in our SLD setting and will be supporting curriculum and pedagogy development in that part of the school, across the 3 – 19 age range. For the remainder of this academic year your class teaching location will be within a secondary aged SLD class. However, in the future your teaching placement will be dependent upon the operational and strategic needs of the school.

  • The other Lead will be based in our ASC part of the school (we have ASC specific bases in 3 areas of North Bristol, our KS2 base is co-located with Shirehampton Primary School, our KS3 & 4 base is co-located with Oasis Academy Brightstowe. We also have a KS5 provision within City of Bristol College) and will be supporting curriculum and pedagogy development from KS2 – KS5. For the remainder of this academic year you will be based at our KS3 & 4 base, however it is likely that your class teaching location will need to flexible in response to the operational and strategic needs of the school.

Given that the school takes pupils from Early Years to Post 16 then you will need to be able to be adaptable to both teach and support colleagues to develop their teaching, learning and pedagogy across the full age range.

What do we want you to do?

  1. Be an excellent classroom teacher with a passion for learning
  2. Use your great inter-personal and communication skills to work alongside other teachers to support their development of pedagogy
  3. Enjoy developing schemes of learning across a wide range of subjects which are innovative, creative and provide opportunities for continuous personalisation and development
  4. Be part of a Leadership team with a relentless focus on providing the very best learning we can for our amazing young people
