Hours: 37 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (Term time plus 1 week)

The Portsmouth Academy is seeking to appoint a Reading Champion to join our teamYou will work closely with the Principal, Associate Leader for English & Literacy and SENCO in the development of high quality, targeted intervention and tutoring to support students in literacy and reading. Your obvious enthusiasm and passion for reading and books will motivate and inspire our students.

What you will need to succeed:

  • The right candidate will have experience of working with young people to support the development of literacy and reading skills 
  • Strong administrative skills to provide support for key areas of the academy’s work, including: the library, reading intervention, trips and other literacy enrichment activities
  • Co-ordinate intervention and tutoring sessions effectively to ensure students retain access to their curriculum
  • Committed to supporting pupils to reach their full potential
  • Effective communicator both orally and in writing with the ability to build positive relationships with students and their parents/carers
  • Good ICT Skills
  • Understanding of the educational system and current developments
  • Previous experience of working in a library is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided

The academy has launched a one:one device policy, so every child in Year 7 and Year 8 has their own laptop, and we are particular interested in finding teachers who have experience of, or would like to develop experience of, teaching with technology.
